The CED Future, Part Seven
Financial Feasibility

Many of you have given constructive criticism to the cause of restarting the
CED format. Most of you believe that it is a futile cause, which from many
perspectives of view is. However, after research I have discovered this.
The estimated total cost of purchasing the patent rights, equipment, and
manufacturing tools is $2,000,000.00, this is estimated remind you.
According to a survey that I conducted there are 300,000 users of the format
nationwide. That is $7 per person if everyone joins in. It is my personal
opinion that $7 isn't allot of money at least to me, however 2 million is. I
ask all of you for help. As 'Geoff' ( said that it
isn't worthwhile, but on the contrary it is. As Chemfish
( wrote "Why fight off each other for what is left?"
This is a good point which I would like to get across. I have found it
harder and harder to obtain replacement parts and that includes stylus
needles for players. We had better get moving on this project if we are
going to and we must. Or we may find that are hobby can do is just collect
I have also started the National Capacitance Disc Library here in my home
town as part of a corporate project here at my company. I invite you all to
stop at my web site and check out the Disc Library Page on it. Thanks. <A HR

As I may have not said before 'I thank all of you for your criticism and for
your help'
With any luck we will not have to worry about running out of time. Let's
beat the calendar shall we?

I rest my case with the rest of the "Majority" that it can be done
in a workable manner. Yes, it can be done economically. Everyone together
will make it work feasably. And yes, there are people who do have the
time to do it.
There is a workable solution. And it will be cost effective. The party
of individuals I'm discussing matters with right now allready have it
worked out on paper!
Some people do have the solutions--already!
you need pars and stylus just like everybody else.

Perhaps rather than re-creating the whole process through your own
company we should see if one of the specialist video companies would
be interested in releasing on CED.
The key is the ability to master and to press CED disks.
That is the really tough issue.
Does mastering and pressing equipment still exist or can they be
     easily rebuilt?
And of course the whole issue of CED stylii remains unknown.
There is also copyright issues relating to material to be released on
CED. (This would less of a problem for an exiting video company).
     In any case goodluck ....

Subject: New Section at CED Magic

Fellow CED'ers:

A new section called "Miscellaneous Information" has been added near the bottom
of the main CED Magic page. This will contain info that doesn't fit elsewhere
at the site. So far I've put one page on caddy repair and maintenance and another
one containing a CED bibliography with reviews of several books of interest to
CED collectors.
