I ended up adding a BNC video out to the SKT400, then running BNC to BNC RG6 cable to the scan converter and RGB to the projector. Works pretty good, but it is clear that the dynamic range of the videodisc is taxing this digital projector (limited contrast compared to an analog 3 tube projector - maybe one day...). I could have used an adapter, but I wanted to compare apple and apple with the rest of my equipment.

My whole family cannot tell the difference if I am playing an LD, CED or DVD of the same movie or which looks better. I can see the differences but that is because I know what to look for. Each format actually has some issues, but the brain is a wonderful thing and just learns how to ignore.

They do see a huge difference with VHS, though. I dont have bluray or HDDVD, else it might be a different story.

If you do have an HDTV or projector, an outboard scan converter will definitely provide the best quality.

The other thing I added to the setup is something I've had for years and years. It's a stereo synthesizer / expander. It was made to enhance old recordings. I have it inline between the CED player and the switcher, that way I can fake stereo on non stereo CEDs, if I want, or enjoy the original soundtrack by hitting bypass. A few manufacturers made those in the 70s and 80s, including radio shack, dolby labs etc.
