I was recently doing a search for "RCA Videodisc" trying to find anything I could to support my theory on the oil. According to this link I found, the oil on the discs was in fact a silicon based oil. You may want to read this. Also, to support both of the washing and oiling subjects, you need to watch the 23 minute video that Tom has made available on his website. The discs are actually washed before they get an oil coating! So...It might be risky what I do to my collection...but, after this, I'm must be on the right track. Just trying to help.
