I have a few players I have inhereted, I have a couple rca's, a zenith, and a Montgomery Ward model. I have tried to play discs, but the most common failure I am having is the disc will play for about 30 seconds or so, then just start fast forwarding. I didnt see this in the troubleshorrt section, it sure seems common to my players, anyone have a solution or cause? |

Check the motor that drives the tonearm. See if it appears to be "frozen", then suddenly "breaking loose". It's supposed to very slowly turn at a fairly constant rate, but sometimes, as the lubricants get old, etc., the motor doesn't have enough torque to do the slow drive - then all of the building momentum finally gives way and boom! - it just takes off, causing it to appear to be fast-forwarding. It could also be a problem with the sensors in the tonearm's stylus compartment, or even the SERVO BAL adjustment or the STYLUS KICKER adjustment, but I'd check that motor first. |
