Hi,
I got a SFT 100W and when I play a disc the ther is no recognizeable sound. Only buzzing and crackling. I had read a few years ago that the sound chip needs to be replaced.
If anyone can give me some more information I would like to get this baby fixed up so I can use it!

With no audio output on a monaural player, a likely cause is failure of the audio demodulator integrated circuit (RCA Stock No. 149035). But the buzzing/crackling you describe could be due to a problem in the RF modulator. Before replacing the chip try connecting an amplified speaker between Test Point 3601 and ground to evaluate the audio signal before it goes through the RF modulator.
A replacement 149035 chip can be obtained from CEDatum:
