First of all, a CED is not the same as a laserdisc. The laserdisc is read by a focussed laserbeam. A CED is read by a very small stylus . The stylus moves across the CED (short for "C"apacitive "E"lectronic "D"isc) and reads the changes in capacitance. The changes in capacitance cause an LC circuit to change frequency. The frequency change has the video and audio information. My explanation is very simplified so as to not get too technical. The CED disc is physically touched by the stylus whereas the laserdisc is "touched" by the laserbeam. Wear of the disc is 0 for the laserdisc; but, the CED does wear out after many hundreds of playings.
Because of the differences, a laserdisc cannot be read by a CED player and a laserdisc player cannot read a CED.
I am sure that there are other CED hobbyists who can give a better explanation than I just gave. For you, I would go to lddb.com if you are looking for a laserdisc forum.
