I bought an SJT100 last night and when I power it on, it just has two dashes on the read out and doesnt give me the option to load a disc. What should I look into for the fix?

I'd say to start with get the service manual for it. I think that one is somewhere on this site and that will show you at least how to get the cover off, which you will need to do regardless of the fix. It's been a while since I've worked on the sjt units. There is only one belt inside it and if that is not working I don't think it will "set everything in motion" to begin the entire process. It's really a good idea though (if you have somewhat limited or no knowledge what so ever) to read thru the service manual. For the 100 I think it's a mono unit so you could skip the stereo stuff(because the service manual covers the 100,200, and 300). Another thing to consider is when it comes to playing a disc is if it doesn't play perfectly, you'll have to send your stylus to CEDatum for cleaning and inspection (which is free) and they will then inform you of it's condition and cost of rebuild/repair if needed. Or if you have a known good cartridge try playing the disc with it. Note: just buying a NOS cartridge off ebay or somewhere doesn't mean the cartridge is good. I feel with a cartridge it's almost always best just to send it in and get a report on it.
