I have owned three of these over the years. Notice the hole in the side. This came new with a long screw. You simply removed one of the front side screws from the player and attached the adaptor with the long screw. This will also fit any of the Sears mono players.

Thanks for that. I want the adapter for a Sears player that I bought new in Aug. 1983.

I bid a maximum of $100 for the adapter. Time to wait and see.

I don't know if anyone would be selling the schematic for it as it was not made in large quantities. IFF (if and only if) I win it will I open it up and take photos to post. I am afraid that the odds are thin that I will win the adapter.

FYI: Sinon is French for "If not". Just another acronym for you.

If you do win it perhaps you can list the components and take pictures of the board, traces and parts. One of our topnotch members could possibly duplicate it with the information and probably a personal look at it. Having a new duplicate of them would be something that could generate a small bit of revenue for the site maybe and we might use that to upgrade the forums software as some have wished for.

Just an idea...

Toshiba also made a stereo adaptor for their Toshiba, Montgomery Ward and Elmo players. The model number was Toshiba DSA 100 Stereo Adaptor. The Sanyo player had a stereo adaptor jack on the back but I don't think the adaptor was ever released.

I have Pioneer receivers from 1979-80 or so that had a similar jack for AM Stereo but Pioneer never released one either.

I have an outboard CX noise reduction adaptor for the first generation Pioneer VP1000 Laser Disc player. Even though this player was stereo, it could not decode the CX noise reduction. The Hitachi adaptor for CED players not only decoded the stereo but also has the CX noise reduction. CX noise reduction is a single ended processor that reduces noise up to 20 db if the content has been encoded but you can still listen to the stereo content without the adaptor.

since you (dumbchemist) have stated your max bid I'm not going to bid on it to just drive up the bid because I wouldn't go up past a $100 so it would just be driving the price up . I have a player with the jack for the stereo adapter but I don't remember the brand, it's not downstairs with me at the moment so I can't look at it. I think somewhere there was a topic about the adpaters and I would be very interested in seeing what's going on inside one. I had also wondered about getting a stereo board (pw4000 I think ???) and see if that could somehow be used. I haven't seen the inside of the player I have or a similar one, only the rca units. Good luck. I can't picture that going for more than $100 ????

That is funny as I had 1986(?) Dodge Omni that had an AM stereo/FM stereo radio. I did not listen to the AM stereo as there was too much static and signal bounce with it. FM stereo gave the best signal reception.

As for my bid on the adapter I feel I am spitting in the ocean with my $100 bid. I have seen the adapters go for much more than my top bid. I maybe wrong and will win the auction except that I feel I cannot be optimistic about it. There are 4+ days left

not on topic but I had a plymouth horizon, I think it was an 87 that I bought new in 88 ?? Quite some years later I had it in the shop for something or other and my mechanic hit a big deer with it when he took it out for a test drive and really smashed the front end in. Basically all body damage and he said he could get a used front of a body for $200 and put it on for me for free. The reason being when you sign the slip to get an estimate there is fine print that states damages due to an act of god our not the responsibility of the business. So in this case he wasn't liable for the damage. Here's the kicker, the front end parts were from a dodge omni, so the car kind of became either a horomni or an omnrizon!

The reason for the static or even engine related noise such as ignition is because of poor antenna grounding and similar problems. The Chrysler AMS radios were pretty good, and the AMS chip itself could be used as a synchronous detector if I recall correctly so it actually contributed to the IMPROVEMENT of AM reception in car stereos after that.

As for platform motion, that has been corrected over the years. The one problem that remained was falsing, or noise in the range of the pilot tone triggering the decoder. Changes in that process that delayed the triggering helped but adjacent and co-channel phasing errors can induce it just the same.

I won it for $66, That definitely is a steal. I never dreamt that I could ever get an adapter and yet here I am the owner of one. Last night I went to bed thinking that the odds of winning were just too high and yet I got an e-mail from E-bay saying that I had won.

Now, I hope the thing works. I will have to take my Sears player off its shelf, attach the adapter and do some testing. If it works, the next step will be to see if I can open the adapter up and take some pictures. I will then post the pictures here.

I sincerely thank any of you that did not bid on it.

The delivery date range is Oct. 20 to 24.

Cool deal. It's always nice to see the "you won" email. I just lost out on a SAE 5000. It's a click pop reducer from the late 70's I think. I want it to put the audio from my ced player thru it and try to reduce the occasional "clicks and pops" that I sometimes hear. It's actually designed for records and I used to have one and they work pretty good. It's easy to make it work too good and it starts taking out bits and pieces that it shouldn't. I'm thinking the results when used with CED should be pretty good. I only bid $60 and one person bid higher so I missed out. I think shipping was $15 or so and I didn't want to pay more than that $75 total.
I curious what the stereo adapter will look like. Perhaps it doesn't send video to the adapter like the CED's send video to the pw4000 board ??? Don't remember now what jacks were on the adapter. Good luck with it.

The adapter mounts on the outside of the player. There is a cable with a DIN plug that goes into the jack on the back of the player. On the back of the adapter are 2 RCA jacks for the L and R audio signals.

It appears you keep the same strange hours as I do. I didn't feel like doing much Monday so after some breakfast went back to bed. I have a pig and I bought the pig inside last night for her to sleep in the house. We got a boatload of rain over the weekend. About 9 inches. It caused a small 113 year old dam to burst. Just miserable weather. My brother was driving from here (south west Michigan) to O'hare airport right during the rain and he said about 20 times he had to pull to the side of the freeway because you couldn't really make out even the wipers on the windshield alot of the time. It got down to about 40 sunday night. She has a house outside that's dry but when it gets that cold I bring her in.
Sounds like that adapter just deals with audio. i'm wondering then if it's the same type of parts as the pw4000 board , less the video side of things. Curiosity is killing me. I need to go out and see what player I have that takes an adapter.

I am retired so I have no need to get up to get to a job. I get up sometime between 4 and 5 AM as I did that when I was working. It is just a habit that I cannot seem to break.

The adapter only does audio. As for players that use the adapter: the 934.54780150 (Sears mono player), the Hitachi VIP series and the Realistic CED-1 use the Hitachi STA-300 adapter. (This info is from the CEDmagic.com website.) I have the 934.54810350, SJT-200 and SJT-400 players that do stereo natively.

Just be patient as another adapter will eventually show up on E-bay. I know as I have been waiting for an adapter for maybe 2 years now.

As I stated in an earlier post:

"The delivery date range is Oct. 20 to 24."

Well, this is the 25'th and I have not seen the adapter yet. According to E-bay, the seller mailed the package on 10/17.

What worries me is that the seller has not posted a tracking number with E-bay. As a result, I cannot trace where the package is right now. I just hope that the package did not get lost.

I am going to open a case with E-bay in a day or two and hope it jars the seller. He may have a tracking number and has not shared it with E-bay.

(Several years ago, I mailed my income tax return to New York state along with a check for what I owed. A couple of months later, I noticed that the amount of the check was still in my checking account. I made a call to the income tax dept. in Albany and found out that they had never received my income tax or the check. I was shocked. The only conclusion I could come up with is that the letter I had mailed them had gotten lost in the mail. As a result, I do not trust the USPS as far as I can throw them especially for something as important as an income tax.)

Update:

I sent a note to the seller asking if he had the tracking number for the.adapter. He replied that it was the same as the VCR cover. I then realized that I had bought 2 items off the same seller: a VCR cover and the Hitachi adapter. The seller had apparently mailed the 2 items in the same box. So, I attempted to track the VCR cover and I found out that the package is out for delivery today! I will have more later.

I just went up to my mailbox and there were 2 packages for me. I got down to the house and opened up both. One package is for a Sony A/V Selector. The other box had both the Adapter and the VCR cover. The Adapter was wrapped in the VCR cover thus it showed no evidence of damage.

The Adapter is small (1 3/8" X 3.5" X 7 1/8"). One end is labeled: Hitachi Video Disc Stereo Adapter STA300. Below the previous lettering is a square with the words Noise Reduction System in it. Below that lettering is a slide switch. The top position is Main, the middle position is Stereo and the bottom position is Sub. The other end has 2 RCA connectors with one labeled L and the other labeled R (who would have guessed). Under the 2 connectors is a cord coming out of the Adapter with a DIN plug. Above the cord is labeled: Connect To The Accessory Outlet on Your Player. On the bottom of the Adapter are 2 numbers. One is a label with the numbers 000905 on it. The other numbers are scratched into the paint and are: 713831642. What those 2 numbers mean is beyond my knowledge. There are 6 screws holding the Adapter together. 2 of the screws are on the top and the other 4 are on the bottom. I unscrewed all 6 and I could not get the box apart. It seems that there are 2 rubber pads on the bottom of the Adapter which are glued down very well. The 2 pads will have to come off if I am to get a look inside. I will have to do some more work on this. More later.

Now that I have the adapter, I figured it was time to test it out. I looked at my player inventory and realized that that is not going to be easy. I have 5 players. 3 have stereo builtin and the adapter would not work on them (SJT-200,. SJT-400, Sears 934.54810350). The 2 other players have issues. One is a Sears 934.54780150 and needs lubrication (hence my post on this forum). The other player is a Realistic CED-1 that needs troubleshooting: the stylus will not move over to the start position when a disc is inserted (I replaced both belts with ones from Tom).

Of the last 2, I think I will be able to get the Sears player working the soonest. I will have more later.
