There's an odd staticky quality to the sound on some of my PAL discs- I uploaded this video but please don't pay attention to the picture as my equipment can't capture PAL video properly, just listen to how it sounds on a decent system:

It doesn't do this on every disc, so it's possible there could have been a mastering error but I don't know how this could have slipped past quality control. This is from the Phil Collins disc and is particularly bad; I also noticed the Duran Duran disc sounds bad also. On the other hand I watched all of Abba: The Movie and did not notice this issue at all, and I watched most of the Soft Cell disc and that sounded nearly perfect until the song "Seedy Films" which has a percussion effect that triggered the problem again.

Wondering if this is fixable or if I should look for another stereo PAL player. I have every PAL title but am in the US so shipping this stuff is a pain.

i wonder if it may be bad solder joints at the rca jacks? The intermittent thing is what gets me. I know I was working on a player and all was fine and then one day the audio seemed to be "acting up" so I checked the rca jacks and i found alot of cracked/cold looking solder joints. Other than that I suppose an ic could be going bad? i think after just looking things over maybe just start from the cartridge and figure out where the problem originates. I also wonder if some capacitors may be "drying up" so maybe certain frequencies of sound create more of a problem than others.

Capacitors may be the issue, if the audio jacks were bad they would just be cutting the sound out completely. I already have another PAL player on the way from the UK, will be bringing this one to the workshop next month.

I just got another player from the UK, it only took 6 days to get here but it has the SAME problem. Someone on YouTube commented that it may be power-related. Can anyone suggest a power transformer to use? I am using one from GoldSource right now.

And checking with someone else who says they are getting good sound out of their player, they are using the exact same power transformer I am. Am almost at a loss at this point. Anybody have a verified good player they want to sell me, or should I keep rolling the dice on Ebay?

Some of the inside got cleaned and such, I haven't had time to mess with it since I got back but a lesser-used stylus and adjusting one of the pots inside improved the audio at least. I wish I knew the full story of what was going on with this and what else I could replace to improve it.
