I bought a collection recently and one of the discs was a Star Wars without a label. I watched it and did not notice anything 'special.' Was wondering if anyone had any info on it.

I have pics, but do not see a way to upload. The caddy is unlabelled and white. Has the following handwritten on it: "Star Wars Episode IV Studio Copy Side 1." Same thing on reverse except for, of course, the side # changing.

I am genuinely looking for info. Not for sale or trade. However, I now have some doubles for trade! (Nothing exciting, really).

Does side two contain the end of the movie? When the studio sent RCA the film it was mastered in real time and took 3 sides, so 2 discs. One copy was made and sent to the studio for review and another copy was made for RCA's internal records. The studio reviewed it and said they want it all to fit in one disc. So RCA re-mastered it in a faster speed to it would all fit on one disc, 2 sides. John Stevens sent me the RCA copy of disc 2, side 3. I have no idea what happened to disc 1. If what you have does not contain the end of the film on side 2 then you have the studio copy that was made. Which would be amazing, because between the 2 of us we would now have the whole film. You will have to let us know.

It does contain the end of the movie. I will double-check but it seemed to be the same thing as the regular release. I do not yet have a functioning stereo player, so will have to double check the sound.

I picked it up in a collection I got in Blaine, MN.

Your in MN, that's my stomping grounds. I currently reside in Mankato. If you want more discs I have plenty that I'm looking to sell. If you decide to come down and get some you should bring this with. I'd love to take a look at the stamping numbers on it and see if it's a first run or something. If you need any player help or need more players I can help you out with that too. Send me a text or give me a call 507 380 3787. - Josh.

No, actually, I live in California. The Stockton/Sacramento area. I was in Eau Claire for a conference and decided to see if there were some discs for sale while I was there. I had to ship home 200# worth of discs and put a Zenith player into my suitcase! Smile

Jesse is Jesse Skeen. That is his ID here. There are no PMs on this board, and if the member allows it contact will either be listed in a post or signature or if there is an email button in their posts then you can send an email through the owner's account...it works sort of like Craigslist did, the contact goes through that account so that if you encounter problematic messages you can return them directly to Tom and he'll deal with it. If you wish to communicate outside of CED Magic then that is between the two of you.

His email is skeenjesse@gmail.com but it might just go to his spam folder. Best of luck.

I have a copy of Annie that has a stamp on it that reads, "RCA Property. Not to be sold, rented or copied. For Employee Home Use Only."

What was that about?

RCA had a library of discs for the employees to check out and watch. Sorta like in-house video rentals. After Videodisc closed the former employees got them.

I really don't think there will ever be a chance you'll be asked to give it back Laughing

I wonder if your Star Wars disc is the one they made after the studio requested it all fit on one disc. It's weird that it is hand written as RCA usually used a sticker and then wrote on the sticker, even with a blank caddy. I would assume it is legit though if you got some property stamp discs in with it.

If the disc plays, how could it NOT be legit?

Who else was making CEDs but RCA after all? Smile

It would be an elaborate hoax, and costly.

Some rental places and service stops had blank caddies and when a caddy broke but the disc was still good they would pop it in a blank caddy so they could still use it. Then just write the label on with a sharpie. When RCA had internal discs they typically put a label on and then wrote on the label. But the fact that this came in a lot with some property stamp discs I'd have to say it is probably from RCA and not some service shop or rental house.

CBS Records in Georgia also pressed CEDs- you can spot theirs as not having the copyright warning stamped in the middle that RCA's discs had. They pressed most Fox and Vestron titles, I'm pretty sure all copies of Star Wars I've looked at were pressed there but they may have made that one at both facilities given what a big title it was.

Another thing to look for on that disc to see if it's unique is the red FBI warning at the very end, which was the only thing added besides the actual movie on this title (there was no intro at the beginning). If that disc doesn't have one, then it's from a different master than the consumer disc.
