|

OK, I finally got new belts and a new stylus, and lubed up the turntable shaft. Now a I get a Black & White picture with a big distortion just right of the center of the screen and ghost images too, also no sound at all and the LED readout only gives me dashes. I'm using the RCA jack hookups for connections. I get the same problem when I try using the old stylus as well.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have a SGT200 too. When I hooked it up the first time I got the same thing - no sound, very poor distorted picture.
The Co-Ax cable I used was damaged! I replaced the cable; that fix the problem.
So check the simple stuff first.
Are you sure the disc player is hooked up to the TV the right way?
Are the cables and connectors in good shape?
Is the TV set on the right channel? |

I was using the RCA connectors hooked up to my home theatre reciever. I'll try cleaning the RCA connectors and also try using the coaxial connections too. Thanks for the reply. _________________ Also a video game collector. |

Have seen some references that a B&W distorted picture can be due to improper turntable speed and poor functioning magnets that somehow regulate it.

Is there any way to replace the magnets? What else would be effecting the speed regulation other than belts?
Also, the scan foreward and reverse buttons don't do anything, would this be because of the speed problem too? _________________ Also a video game collector. |

Wes,
Black and white ( and grey) picture. Could be the turntable rotation speed is not correct. The spec for the turntable belt is critical. Did you install a genuine RCA replacement belt ? It comes in a red box.

Yes, in fact I believe I ordered it from you. I got the servo belt from CEDmagic and used thier link to you for the turntable belt. _________________ Also a video game collector. |

I'll give this one more bump, if no luck then I'll just consider it a parts machine and look for a new one. _________________ Also a video game collector. |

Have you checked the rotation speed with a strobe disc ? If the turntable rotation speed is too slow you may loose audio as well as have video with no chroma. |

Whats a strobe disc, and where would I get one? Could I just check the turntable with a hand tach? _________________ Also a video game collector. |

The turntable speed check strobe can be printed out from the following web page. This page also has instructions on its use.
http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/strobe.html
You can also use the hand-held tachometer. With the unit set for 450 RPM, the player turntable should appear to stand still.
