I am pretty sure they use the same stylus and was wondering if anyone had a working one for sale or trade?

I have a working RCA FST-100 i would be willing to trade for a working stylus.

Thanks in advance!

Go to CEDatum.com. They clean and rebuild all CED styluses (styli?). They might have a rebuilt Hitachi stylus for sale. Post your results on this thread.

Are you dusty228883 that I almost bought a Hitachi VIP1000 from on E-bay?

Yes, I figured out what was wrong with the player. It currently does not work but i took it 100% apart and found that it had a short. It started when i found a blown fuse and took me a while to find the short since it was hidden under the last circuit board. I got it to turn on and then it started smoking it seems to be some type of diode bridge. I was trying to find a diode bridge that matched this and i was hoping to solder on a new one and see if that does the trick. (i do a lot of soldering on motherboards etc)

I tride CEDatum and they are out of stock with many request it looks like. If i get this 100% woking with the diode ill prob end up just relisting it.

This is what it looks. The only thing it says on it is S2VC oo and the AC symbol one half is negative the other is positive. The issue im having is i cant seem to find any single negative or single positive. Do you have any idea what this is? I could be wrong about the bridge diode.[/img]

I cannot help you here. What you need is a service manual for the Hitachi players. Maybe someone on this forum could help you?

I have experience working on PC's; but, it is limited to adding/.replacing parts (hard drives, PCI cards, etc.). Many years ago I used to work with IC's and transistors as a hobby; never professionally.

It is too bad the player is not an RCA. RCA attached a paper to the underside of the cover showing where all the components are and their values. Hitachi was not so helpful.

if its a diode with 3 legs, its probably a rectifier.
