hi everyone! below are pictures and a video on youtube all about my story on how i got this whole system, feel free to ask any questions!

here was some of the other stuff that was at the house that eventually will be up for sale

this is the minidisc player i got in with the other stuff

here is how i had to pack all the stuff i the truck, it all made it safely.

this was the pile of wires i had to go through haha

also i got this camcorder and case although i have a feeling that it doesnt work

this one was the worst of the 4 speakers in the set

it has some kind of mold...

these are the speaker stands, i also have 4 of them

this was inside the linear tracking record player

belt was stretched out...

these next pics are the vtr units belts

this belt and the above belt were a snap to get to

but the belt for the head drive required complete disassembly

these pics are of the original dimensia vcr unit that had some sort of critical failure...

this chassis is very similar to the vjp vkp vtr units although it is a single vcr unit, these belts were good

was able to free up the take up reel and it actually played a tape but the osd was stuck on...

screen still lit up but you can see where the smoke poured out

what a nightmare

the base for the television

and the back of the television

all lit up

status

some hall and oates

HERE IS MY VIDEO, ITS ABOUT 25 MINUTES LONG

I wonder, excepting the CED player, just how many of those components were built by HITACHI?

Very cool. The final setup seems like it was worth it all the hassle.

By the way, the name Dimensia wasn't so unfortunate as the once quite popular weight loss candies named AYDS. Embarassed

Unless I posted a picture of it to a group I'm currently registered to, it may be lost to the ages.

The Dimensia system is somewhat similar to the Sony Control-S setup. I don't know when it came out; but, it allowed Sony LD, CD, Minidisk, VCR and DVD players to be connected to a Sony receiver by cables. When the cable was plugged into a peripheral (like an LD player), the IR receiver in the peripheral was turned off and the IR commands were then received by the amp and forwarded to the peripheral.

The original Sony setup was to have the Sony TV receive IR commands and then forward them to the amp which would then forward the command to the Sony peripherals.

In my setup, I have a Sony STR-DA2ES receiver that is cabled by Control-S to a DVD changer. When I press power on the DVD remote, the DVD changer powers up. It then sends a command to the amp to switch the amp's input to the jacks for the DVD changer. (Keep in mind that the DVD changer is 20 feet away from the amp and is in a closet with the door closed.)

Unfortunately, Sony decided to eliminate Control-S sometime in the past. Today, in order to use the Control-S system, you would need to find peripherals and an older Sony amp with the Control-S jacks.

I find the Control-S system to be preferable to using IR repeaters and stick on IR emitters.

The Dimensia systems was definitely ahead of its time.
