I am still new to this - bought a huge lot of discs recently (I am a re-seller of stuff). I wanted a player to make sure the discs were ok, so I bought a Zenith from a guy who couldn't test it - I know, I took a chance. Well, it loaded a disc and played it at a super fast forward rate (bad stylus?). It loaded and unloaded ok the first few times but now it won't load the disc. So, repairs 101? What should I try first to get the disc to load consistently. Then, what should I do about the stylus - find a new/rebuilt one? clean this one?
I appreciate any good information you can give. Thanks.

I now have another player - a RCA SFT100W. It has the same chassis as the Zenith. Each of these works but has a different problem with the advance mechanism. The Zenith advances only at fast-forward speed. The RCA doesn't advance at all - I can turn it by hand to keep the disc playing normally. So, what controls this? In the case of the Zenith, is it something bad in the circuitry? For the RCA, is it a bad servo motor?
At least the stylus works for each and they load/unload properly. I have cleaned the main drive belts, but not the servo belts as they are not easy to remove.
Thanks for any advice you have.

I got the RCA to work, but the Zenith still only plays in FF speed. Could the player be stuck in FF? I would appreciate any information I can get about where to look for a solution to this. Thanks.

If you go back to facebook where you posted the question first, I answered this the first time. Its the arm. Take the stylus arm from the working rca and put it in there. I bet you it will work. Its almost always that. It was a low turntable on your other one, which I have never seen solve the problem, guess it was a luck fix. If you are using the same stylus and disc that work in your rca player I still stand by my first response and that it is the stylus arm. I have seen this problem at least 5 times and it was never the turntable being low it was something wrong in the electronics of the stylus arm. Cedatum and Tyler have seen it work and cedatum is the one who showed us that this was the fix.

So, to be clear, you are talking about the entire stylus mechanism, not just the stylus itself?

Yep the whole stylus arm. There is a plug on the top right and the landing latch that has two screws. You should be able to get it out with just those but sometimes you might have to take the top board off to make it easier. When you do take it off be careful not to turn the little black gear on the right side directly underneath the stylus arm. I can take pictures if you want, so that it would be easier to show you.
