Putting aside the playback issues I currently have with the worn stylus I noticed tonight that the player is making a sort of tapping noise when the disc is spinning. Any thoughts as to what this could be?

Apologies I've only noticed I had written the model incorrectly. You are correct in that it's an hitachi vip201p.

i dont think the hitachi's have an easy turntable adjustment since they are direct drive, and sadly i dont have service literature for these styles of player, hopefully ryan knows somethin!
