Agreed - service manuals are very useful for people wanting to dig into formats, etc. I've found Laserdisc service manuals rather useful myself, even for models I don't actually own! The only public SM I've found is for the SJT400. This includes the theory of operation, which makes it good technical reading on CEDs as a whole.
