Hi,

Can someone tell me exactly how to go about changing the function motor belt on an RCA SGT-250? I mainly need to know how to remove the black gear next to the small white pulley and gear where the belt goes. Are you supposed to take the black gear off, or is there another way?

Thanks.

Dad has been reading the posts, but since he's unable to type, he's asked me to write an answer for you. His words:

Best way to remove the pulley is to locate a skinny-nosed needlenose plier that will fit under the pulley and where each plier tip is on opposite sides of the metal shaft. Close the pliers so that they touch the shaft loosely, and rest the plier handle on the case side to the right of the pulley. Gently pry the pulley with light & intermittent tugs, using the case side as a lever point.

2cnd best way is to use two thin stem screwdrivers and put them on oppisote sides of the shaft, and do the same motions as above.

Before doing this, he says to use a few drops of light lubricant on the shaft where pulley is pressed to help in removal. Doing it as above will avoid breaking the pulley 99% of the time. Be ready for it may pop off and fly, so good to have somebody else with a hand ready to grab it.

Once removed, always use a little light grease on shaft when putting it back on.

This is exactly what he does, and I know it works from observing.

That's perfect. I do have a tiny bit to add. One thing that I found to be a help is to get some narrow ribbon, about 10 inches long, (like Christmas wrapping paper ribbon) put it around the belt and it will be easier to get on the pulley! I love the 250, it's my very favorite.
