Hello,
I have bought a Hitachi VIP202P player from ebay.co.uk. It is my first player and I was very excited but it turns out it is not working. It didn't come with any instructions: does anyone know where I can get manuals from? Would there be two manuals: amuser manual and a service manual, or are there more?
I read cedmagic and saw mauritron recommended. They seem to sell manuals for the vip201; are these very similar and would they be a good starting point? The obvious difference listed on cegmagic is that the 201 had an IR remote control, whereas the 202 had a wired remote control.
I have bought some discs separately but I cannot insret them into the player. The metal flap at the front does not seem to move out of the way to let the caddy slide in. How can I fix this?
I have taken the lid off (with the player unplugged) and I also see that there is a black plastic tray that should lift and lower to accept the caddy. This is operated by a motor. Looking at the diagrams on cedmagic, I think you would call this the loading belt. The belt has become stretched and is sticky and is sticking to itself, so it needs replacing. Cedmagic shows three belts: loading, timing, and arm drive, so I guess I should replace them all together. Where can I get these from? Some ebay sellers say they bought from cedmagic but the purchase page says that sales are suspended. Should I try to use the http://www.russellind.com/prbline/index.html link instead?
If you can give any more information about the VIP202P I would be grateful. I also see VIP101 models on ebay. These don't seem to be listed on cedmagic. Are they just a mono equivalent of the stereo vip201 and 202?
Thanks, |

Congrats on buying your first CED player. It is a unique format.
As to your questions:
You cannot insert a disc into the player because of the loading belt failure. The only source for belts that I know of is the store on CEDmagic.com.
I have no idea when the CEDmagic store will be reopened. It has been a long time that is has been closed. I need belts for one of my players just as you do.
You will only need the loading belt and the arm drive belt. The timing belt is hard to replace, but it rarely fails. I have 2 Sears players that look similar to your player so I am assuming that the internal mechanics are the same. I have had to replace the loading and arm drive belts on one of them so I do have some experience in this matter.
From what I can tell, the VIP202P and VIP201P are PAL format players (hence the P at the end of the model name).
Try this for a service manual:
