|
|
I picked up a SJT300 variant a few months back. At first the player played flawlessly. Didn't use it for a month or so and when I did next all of the output was in black and white. I tried multiple discs and had the same issue on all of them.
Also, I bought a 'New' disc on EBay that was supposed to be shrinkwrapped and when it arrived it wasn't. Long story short the seller claims that he bought a large collection of shrinkwrapped titles and some had peeling plastic so he took it off. And the disc did not match the auction pic. Anyway. It skips pretty bad compared to my other discs even though it does look fairly unused. Could it just be the dreaded "Video Virus"?
Thanks !! |

it is possible the turntable speed is off. a bit of lube cant hurt on the turntable shaft bearing. while it is possible the stylus is dirty or damaged, without having another stylus to check, i cant say for sure. one thing i will say is you should check any disc you never played on the player before to make sure it doesnt have damage that could harm the stylus. even though they are in a caddy they can still get ruined from mistreatment. _________________ (2)Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350), sft100, sgt250, sjt 090-400, vp550, VDR3000, VP2000 & 4000

Thanks Selectavision,
Well when I first put in the 'new' disc after the player had sat unused for over a month the picture was b/w and fairly shaky from the get-go, until the picture stabilized fairly quickly but was in black/white. And when I had the cover off looking at the stylus I popped the disc back in and looked at it "nude", it looked almost mint and I looked at the grooves with a flashlight.
So what I am trying to get at, is it possible for the stylus to get damaged so quickly from a fairly pristine looking disc?
Thx |

in my experience, no. the player is likely malfunctioning. you can print out the little strobe test disc and test the turntable speed as a minimal invasive way to check the players function. you have to use it under a fluorescent light however. _________________ (2)Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350), sft100, sgt250, sjt 090-400, vp550, VDR3000, VP2000 & 4000

i could barely hear it, was that on purpose? are you using the coaxial connection or the rca jacks? _________________ (2)Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350), sft100, sgt250, sjt 090-400, vp550, VDR3000, VP2000 & 4000

The volume was just low as it was late and didn't want to wake the wife. I was using the coax but it is the same with the RCA jacks and I tried numerous sets and had the same result. |

cool thats good to know you tried a few options. unfortunately unless the turntable speed is off, my guess is that there is a fault in the circuitry somewhere. _________________ (2)Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350), sft100, sgt250, sjt 090-400, vp550, VDR3000, VP2000 & 4000

Oops, haven't been here in a few days...good to see you, doity, know your Cartrivision videos well and you know me as well from the other side of Oregon.
Any progress with your player?
