Stock number 154216
I just got this back having been cleaned and checked
Could it be a stylis problem?
Actual number on stylis is 412ab1836 |

Unlikely, but if you have another stylus, give it a try. I misread the post and thought it was an SFT 100 initially.
As I recall, in a stereo player, the stereo on CEDs works in a way that gives one separate channels by decoding the L+R signal and decoding the L -R signal, then these signals are matrixed to make a L and R outputs.
So the problem could be within this area, not in decoding since your player doesn't do that, but having something to do with one of the separate channels muffling the other maybe? Any ideas out there? |

| John Stevens suggested I adjust the turntable with the hight adjustment. So I did that and Only got clearer sound when The picture lost color and got distorted. I guess I can only play mono discs for now.until I get money to buy another player or buy and try another stylis. Otherwise the player works great. |

you might have dirty pickups in the pickup arm where the stylus goes in, the contacts may have gotten a little dirty ofter all these years... the stylus might have good pickup but the various contacts in the stylus arm that it touches may be a bit dirty and may be causing issue? thats all i can think of at the moment... _________________ Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350),sft100,sgt250,sjt090,100,101,200,300,400,vp550, VP4000!

| Yeah, try another stylus. I'm often surprised at the issues a stylus can cause. Abyway, it's not bad to have an extra stylus. |

| When adjusting the turntable,Whats the optimal height that the turntable should be, if it closer to the stylis will I get better picture? Or does it not matter? |

there is a tool that you are supposed to use that fits into the stylus cartridge slot, without using it, its really a shot in the dark... the turntable could be too high and you wouldnt be able to tell. i heard you can use a ruler in reference to the bottom of the turntable and the inside base of the player, but its only good for reference in relation to height gain or loss in adjustment... _________________ Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350),sft100,sgt250,sjt090,100,101,200,300,400,vp550, VP4000!

Yep, there's information on the CEDmagic repair solutions page that discusses what the proper fractions of inch the turntable should be in height.
I've also noticed sometimes that lifting the left side of the stylus arm while a disc is playing, where it rolls on the flat runner, can decrease (or increase) video and audio distortion.
One player I had would not play properly with the turntable at the correct height. It would play properly with the turntable lowered enough to scuff on the underneath base. This was regardless of stylus. The mickey mouse solution was to attach a wooden flat coffee stirrer onto the left side roller runner base to lift the stylus arm a bit, and then it played perfectly after that.
The peculiar world of the CED player. |
