Hi all, newbie here. I have a Zenith vp2000 that my dad gave me, he has had it since it was brand new. My problem is that the player turns on and loads the disk but only plays a couple minutes of the opening and then starts completely over at the beginning of the movie, I have taken the top cover off and I believe this may be the problem, there is a tiny belt maybe an inch to inch and a half diameter and when the small motor kicks on the motor turns but the belt does not. Make sense?

My dad has had many of these players over the years and has worked on them since the 80s but unfortunately his health and memory has deteriorated so I'm stuck researching and fixing these myself.. I have about 6 more machines in storage and hundreds of disks to go through next spring all that were my dads as well.. Looks like I got a new hobby!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

yes that belt is still available and easy to change, here is a link to the belts page: http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/belt-replacement-guide/belt-specs.html#toshiba-belt-note

You're speaking of the servo belt, which advances the stylus arm. It probably is slipping. This is a common accurence with players that have not been used in a long time. The first thing to try is a thorough cleaning and restoring of the original belt using the tips at CEDatum here:

http://cedatum.com/15322.html

I've found this to work about half of the time or more. The exact original belt is not available any longer. Tom here sells a replacement that requires some stretching ahich he does for several months prior to selling them. I've found these to be a bit snug on the pulleys to my liking, so I use an alternative fix that I developed.
