RCA being the pioneering corporation that it was, it was always improving on its previous designs, and in this case, many came in a short period of time, although all have the CRK designation, the numbers are all different.

only the sgt-250, sjt-300, and the skt-300 came with the skinny stick type of remote, and only from what i can tell has 4 variations. one i dont have and technically doesnt count, because its the remote for the jc penny 686-5705 player which is just a rebranded sjt-300. anyway 2 have blue writing and one had a burnt orange color writing. one blue remote says " rapid access" while the later ones in blue in burnt orange say " hi-speed scan"

crk-34a crk-34c crk-34d and the jc penny apparently had crk-34e and f
if i had to guess the "a" is the rapid access remote, "c" is the hi-speed scan, and "d" is the burnt orange remote

originally when you purchased a new sjt-400 player it was offered with its own individual remote, or if you were interested in buying a colortrak or colortrak 2000 television set or vjp-900 vcr ( which later became dimensia and included other goodies, and then the dimensia name was later dropped and remote features slightly changed ) you could choose to have a "digital command center" remote included.

crk-36a

alternatively when the skt-400 was released its player specific remote had the same features as the sjt-400 remote, but had re-branded buttons with more familiar icons for the function buttons

crk-36b is the same circuit board, just some icons changed

depending on what year you got a command center remote depended on what generation remote you got

crk-32a with and with out smoked cover

crk-32c gained the auxiliary function on the 9 key

crk-32e had some more button re-designations and the off button is red

these black remotes will function like the earlier remotes, although disc is changed to vid2 and later the button itself is removed but you can push the button if you can access the circuit board if you get one of the later ones

crk-35a

crk-35b still has ced player function under blank spot and can be accessed with a screw driver under the cover

crk-42a later when the dimensia name was dropped

please feel free to correct any mistakes i made in identifying these remotes.

also i am still looking for the crk-36b, and both of the jc penny remotes!

On the remote with CED option but covered over and accessed with small screwdriver, a button can be added. The reason I say this is not because it's always good to change the original product but, in this case, the remote is more common than other remotes, and defeating the CED option is altogether too easy by accidental pressing of any other select item button.

Anyway, I have done it by removing the case and marking the correct spot for the button and, using a round button off of a cheapo universal remote bought for $1 at the discount store, drilling a proper-sized small round opening in that spot. Then place the button there and reassemble.

One thing I do is paint the button red with nail polish so it stands out from the others. It doesn't say what item it is, but it's obviously for something other than what else is marked on the other buttons.

You could probably do it with a square or rectangular button, but then you really need to carefully prepare the proper size hole.

The temptation is the point. It will always be set to CED player then.

Great information Tony. I checked my 400 series remotes to see if I had the one you need but no luck, mine are both the 36a. The TV I got came with a 32c remote and the new in package one I got from Ryan is a 32e, both still have the smoke covers. I'll keep an eye outfor that SKT400 remote for you.

I wipe mine down regularly, especially if I'm selling or giving one away.

Grimy remotes are but one way to spread stuff and influenza is spreading particularly fast this year.
