| Issue: movies are constantly skipping. There is a slight skip on every disc I try in this player. I put a brand new stylus in but it didn't help the problem....any ideas anyone? |

there could be a slight timing issue, maybe the turntable belt is starting to slip? ill look in my service manual for you if you can give me some better details, ie does it skip after rapid access front or back? you can check the turntable speed by printing out the turntable timing light disc, and if you put it under a fluorescent light, if the image stands still while its spinning its ok, but if the image (black and white bars) appears to spin forward or backward it is off. since the florescent runs at the same mhz as the turntable, the bulbs "flickering" effect should match up with the turntable timing disc and the black and white bar image should appear to stand still, im pretty sure thats how the turntable timing test tool works... _________________ Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350),sft100,sgt250,sjt090,100,101,200,300,400,vp550, VP4000!

What kind of TV are you watching it on, and what input are you using?
Newer TVs can be problematic with the CEDs, sometimes giving the appearance of slight skipping or other such video aberrations. I wnet through 3 SJT 300s this way once before I discovered it was the TV set, and the players worked just fine on an old CRT TV.
Ended up getting a video device that busted the CED analog into digital HDMI and then there was no more trouble. |

Sounds like the belt is slipping, many VP2000 did this when it needed a new turntable belt. _________________ 2 - RCA SFT-100

| That too is possible, but there's not enough in the description to attempt a good diagnosis. The typical effect with a bad turntable belt is to alternate between a good image, then a wavy rainbow effect and no image. |

maybe try to hook it to another television first if you have one? that is the easiest test to do first as rix was saying _________________ Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350),sft100,sgt250,sjt090,100,101,200,300,400,vp550, VP4000!

| Thanks for the input fellas. The player was recently completely overhauled by Blindfury 420. It has a new belt and new stylus. It is being played on a very new tv but I have 3 other players that work fine with that tv. The timing thing sounds like a possibility. What happens is whenever I play ANY disc, there is a constant picture shaking. I will try the player on an older tv.....maybe that model is not good on the new TV. I will keep you all posted. Thanks everyone!! |

| Well RixRex you were right. I hooked the player up to an old tv and it works like a charm. Its weird that 3 of my four models....SKT 090, Hitachi and SJT 200 all work on the new TV but the SGT wont. Guess the SGT just became a garage TV set up....LOL! Thanks everyone!! |

im my opinion rca cables are far superior, but the piece of coax you were using might have been bad the sgt 250 is a really great player, mine has never failed me _________________ Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350),sft100,sgt250,sjt090,100,101,200,300,400,vp550, VP4000!

What happened here seemingly was signal loss via the coax cables.
It may be that the cable isn't all that hot. The best coax cables are the shielded ones. That's the kind that typically are used with HD signals from Satellite and Cable providers, or what you should use when getting digital signals over the air. You might find using one of them makes it okay, but you may as well keep the A/V cables hooked up since that gives you stereo.
All newer TVs are designed to take the analog tuned signal and turn it into digital for the display. Some newer TVs are less apt to make allowances for lesser signals. Some give you the jittering problems you had, as mine does, and some give you a fflickering blue screen alternating with CED video.
In the case of CEDs, the SFT and SGT models tend to have lesser signal strength, perhaps due to being older technology, or just older than the others. In general CEDs have a tendency to have more signal dropoff than either VHS or Laserdisc, so they are sometimes tough to watch on newer TVs, causing many people to blame the format for skipping and just toss it out, when they need to check the TV or hookup instead.
I figured the problem was other than the player, because Fury wouldn't send out a lemon |

Thanks again guys........I learn more and more about this technology every day. Although I have had CED in my life since I was a kid, I never really knew there was so much intricate detail about them. And you are right RixRex.....Fury would never send out a lemon.... |

No worries brother! I had no doubt the player was not due to anything on your part. Cheers!
