CED VideoDisc and Player Discussion

Hello everybody

I recently saw a stack of videodisc movies @ Salvation Army and i started wondering about them and soon afterwards I discovered they might be exactly what I want!!!

I love the beautiful look and sound of ANALOGUE MEDIA (Analog video/audio) and I collect VHS movies that have NO DIGITAL in them because they look and sound georgeous and always have.. Trouble is ALOT OF VHS MOVIES have been re-issued and they are either DIGITALLY MASTERED or somehow digitally transferred to the VHS tape and it totally ruins the movie!!

I HATE DIGITAL!!!! (video/audio) -- I cannot find the movie ROCKY for example on VHS non-digitally altered!! (Or I havent found it yet) However i just found the videodisc of it today and I assume IT IS NOT DIGITALLY ALTERED AT ALL and is as beautiful as it was back then......

I would like to ask you guys that have had VD for some time and love it..... How does it compare to VHS? I assume it looks/sounds just as good as a total 100% analogue VHS movie....

Ill be looking to try and find a player,im really interested in this technology as it may be another way for me to see classic movies i love IN TOTAL ANALOG (As i saw them then)

well compared to original vhs the quality is better, its matched i think to super vhs, and the audio is always great as it is read by a stylus like a record. this is a great format if you love crackly vhs' its antiquated tech thats available and enjoyable, and easily repairable!

Yes i love analog!!!!!

The thing I like about this is THERE IS NO DIGITAL am i right?? (Complete analog transfer) (Laserdiscs can be digital and I dont want that)

There's no digital video or sound on CED videodiscs. Some do have a matrixed dolby surround track, aka prologic, but that is purely analog, recorded on the two R&L analog tracks, and you'd need the amp with prologic decoder, otherwise you just hear stereo.

Laserdiscs typically have a matching analog soundtrack when they have a digital track, but not always, just most of the time, so you can have LDs as well if you prefer the analog sound, even if it is matrixed surround. LD video is 100% pure analog composite video.
