Well I finally got around to hooking up the Hitachi vip1000 today and she won't play any disc's. I have tried three seperate disc's and once inserted the p[layer will hum loudly and the stand by light will begin to blink..and the humming stops. I'm afraid I don't know enough about the players or where to begin....Any help would be appreciated.

TY

take the top off and put a disc in, try to locate the noise and pinpoint it. you might have to move the circuit board on top, but compared to a vcr these are simple to service

Looks like the loading belt is all stretched out, when I insert a disc it just hums I can't see it move. Hopefully it's just the belt itself and not the whole motor. Is there a belt equivalent out there or do I just hit the product page and wait for new belts?.

I got her opened up and the board moved to the back, have it propped up so its out of the way. The old belt is laying there next to it, it was so old and stiff it held its shape when i removed it from the wheels; looks like the arm drive belt is just as bad. I touched it and it had no give to it what so ever, like a pathetic limp noodle.

See my notes on your other post about this player. You can get belts of the proper size here very easily. I get mine locally at an electonics supply place.

Be very careful replacing that belt. You do not want to force any of the plastic gearing that lifts and lowers that tray if you turn the pully manually. There is a cicumferential tension spring in that assembly that can break loose and the plastic gearing will not hold up to too much tension pushing them past the open and/or close positions. That is the belt that lifts and lowers the tray AKA function drive belt.

You also want to check out the stylus arm loading belt which is situation right under the rear of the stylus arm. That belt is the one that moves the stylus arm out to the edge of the disc, At that point the tooth geared advancing belt take over. If the stylus arm belt is bad or broken, then you have to gingerly reach under the stylus arm and turn the pully wheel that moves the arm out so you can access it. I've known people who turned the pully the wrong way, so watch the arm closely while you turn it. Of course, only need to do this if the belt is bad.

What I'm trying to say is that you need to proceed carefuully and cautiously because, unlike the RCA players, there are not that many parts machines out there for this model.

I haven't moved anything yet still in the look what I did stage, I was fixing an old odessey 2 game system on the same table and couldn't take it anymore so I opened her up. I went ahead and 5 minutes after getting to the products page I ordered 2 of each belt, I'm supposed to take off this week end so depending on time I may not get to put her back together until Sunday evening.
I looked at the arm belt and its in the same bad shape, I won't touch that one till I have the replacements and time. Knowledge is power, Ty guys for all the help.

If the stylus arm belt is still on the pully and has some tension, and is not all soft and falling apart, best to replace the tray arm first.

Then you can load the player with any common disc, and the stylus arm will move out. That is as long as that stylus arm belt is somewhat okay.

Then you can unplug the player and easil replace the stylus arm belt.

Otherwise, you'll have to lift and hold up the arm slightly with one hand and carefully turn the larger arm pully with a finger to get the arm out of the way. Then it can be replaced.

Watch the arm closely while doing this, so to see that it moves in the proper direction. If you feel resisitance on the pully, that's the wrong way to turn. I think it's a clockwise turn, but not 100% sure on that. Anyone else remember?

See It never occurred to me to just let the player run and move the arm out of the way on its own, last thing i need to do is break something I can't afford to have you fix Smile

Dude, Mine is a Hitachi vip1000. We are going to go with the belts being old and worn for now. In taking the top off I could see that the belt was so loose it wasn't lowering the tray into position. I ordered 2 new sets of belts from right here on the products page, once they arrive I'll post some not so large photos of the repairs.

Just got in the belts, I'm just going to do all the belts and drop in a disc to see what happens. Has everyone ordered from the parts page before?? I love the inserts, that's great. TY for the great stuff.

Not usually. Existing belts that have gotten soft or turned to a melted goo just have to be changed.

But old belts that still seem to be in good shape and have stretched a little can be brought back to snugness by sitting overnight in 100% pure ammonia. It works, I have done it on several CED and LD belts so far with really good results.
