Hello, I'm new to the forum.

My wife's late uncle left us a CED player (not working), and approximately 32 movies (12 of which are 2-disc sets).

Of the titles in the collection, 4 are listed as "rare", 5 as "uncommon", and the rest "common".

I have no interest in keeping any of these myself, but I have no idea what any of these are worth, or where or how much to try to sell them for.

Can anyone give me any tips or suggestions?

Thanks!

PS, the titles I have that are "Rare" are:

They Drive By Night
The Heritage of the Bible
On the Beach (2-disc)
Hawaii (2-disc)

The ones that are "Uncommon" are:

The Comancheros
Windwalker
Joan of Arc
The Robe (2-disc)
The Barefoot Contessa (2-disc)

Those discs are not particularly of great value. Probably somewhere in the range of what a new DVD goes for.

The most valuable ones most often seem to be the rare genre movies, in the horror and sci-fi realm.

"What a new DVD goes for", is that for each one, or for all of them together?

What's the best way to sell stuff like that - ebay? Craigs list? I have never used either...

(PS, thanks for your response!!)

To be more specific, the RARE ones might bring the price of a new DVD each.

Example, you can buy new DVD of Comancheros for about $10

The others would be maybe half that.

These would have to be CEDs in excellent condition. Otherwise, cut that by another half again.

Sounds like my best bet would be to donate the whole assortment to goodwill....

Only if you do itemized deductions on your tax return. If you take the standard allowed deduction, there's no benefit.

And if you do itemized, your benefit is only a small percent of what the donation value is, could be 10% or 15% of the item's value. So if you donate a CED worth $10, you save $1 to $1.50 in taxes most likely, and only if you are itemizing deductions.

But of course, donatiing them is good for the organization you donate to.

By the way, you did not say what model player you have. Even if not working, the player could have some value. And the discs could just be sold with the player.

Believe me, when I donate stuff to Goodwill it's not for the tax deduction - it's to clear out stuff I don't want around the house. (I never even take a receipt).

The player is a Montgomery Wards model, and I couldn't get it to work - it seemed to suck the discs out of the caddy just fine, but nothing would ever play. Perhaps it's something I'm doing wrong, but I messed with it for quite a while and finally gave up. Not worth my time.

So I'd be willing to unload the entire setup for whatever I can get for it.... I'm in the Oklahoma City area. If I can't get any $ for I'll give it all away. Seems preferable to just throwing it in the trash.

If the unit powers on, and won't spin the disc, it is possible to fix it and could easily be worth saving.

If you want to sell it, and would ship it, let us here on the forum know because I, or somebody else would buy it.

It seems fairly heavy and not sure how much it would cost to ship. Would it bring enough to make the cost of shipping worthwhile?

BTW, I posted information on the model number for the player on another thread (discs/equipment for sale).

Those players typically need a set of new belts to get them running, and usually that's it. The Wards player is a Toshiba build, and is mono, with an output for a stereo adapter. Adapter is almost impossible to locate.

Also, the turntable drive belt is a very unique flat belt with a slight curve that are no longer available apparently. The player has to have it's drive motor pulley replaced with a grooved pulley and a round belt purchased to run the player.

I would be interested in this player if you would be willing to ship to California. You can contact me directly using the email button below, or send email to RIXREX @ NETZERO.NET

Also, if you have any interest in getting the player working to keep it, or in another model player, like the more common RCA brand, mention that in the email.
