|
|
Sometimes using a CED player connected to the newer LCD, LED, & Plasma TVs creates issues with video dropouts that present themsleves as pixilated images, blackouts or bluescreens and/or audio dropouts as well.
Other times, the images are just unstable, scratchy or wobbly. I experienced this with a CED player I hooked up to a new TV set just purchased. Initially I thought it was the player, but then I got a perfect player from a member here, and the same issue presented itself. After trying several players, I realized it was an issue with the set and how it transforms analog into digital signal to be displayed on the screen.
So, after some fiddling with different devices, I found that both the DVDO and the Hitachi AVC upscalers did an excellent job of halting this problem. They use advanced circuitry to convert that analog format into a digital signal your set can easily digest and present. The DVDO is somewhat expensive, but you can see the less costly Hitachi upscalers I have here at the CED classifieds:

I have about a half dozen left after listing a bunch on the laserdisc forum. I know it's basically tooting my own horn, but nobody else is gonna do it. |

I have had that problem before. Luckily it was a tv I rarely use. It was this one!

Yeah, the CRTs do the job alright. They are designed for analog input of course, and the HD CRTs handle everything well. Plus no problems when it's daylight either.
However, the Sharp Aquos I got has a better quality image even for CEDs than the others, once I hooked up the analog to digital Hitachi unit and no hassles with aspect ratio now. And no backaches. |

I get digital over-air TV channels that look better than cable. By the time cable gets into your home, many channels are degraded to the point of misery. Or they were just bad to start with.
I still have 2 CRTs, a Sony Wega XBR and a Pioneer Elite 64" rear projector. Both are great sets but the Pioneer is developing circuit board problems with solder joints. A common problem with them once they get past 10 yrs use.
Anyway, had to plan ahead for their eventual demise, and after much testing, the Aquos was the best set for viewing older formats. Just as sharp as the CRTs, actually better overall. The plasmas I tested were the worst, and that was top brands like Panasonic and Pioneer. I refused to test any LG or Vizio after seeing them in friends' homes, pretty sub-par. |
