I am having playback issues with a SGT 100. The movie will play perfect up until the 7 minute mark and then it seems to freeze. It has a new stylus, belts and has been cleaned and greased up. It worked fine up until a short time ago. Any suggestions?

my sgt 250 did the same thing, turns out the stylus cover door was hanging up on the tracking arm from too much stuff being on top of the player

I do not have anything on top of the player. It does this with the cover off the machine. It appears to only advance so far and even if you are fast forwarding; the drive unit spins but does not appear to be engaged with the gear teeth even though they are locked in. It looks to be running properly except when it hits that 8 minute mark and then it freezes and will not advance any further.

I had something similar happen to me but it was at around the 30 minute mark. For my specific problem I had to take the stylus arm back out and turn the black gear underneath the stylus arm on the right side, turn towards the front of the player until it stopped. I put the stylus arm back in and it would let the player go to any time on any disc again.

Try this for a test:

Start playing a disc up to where it stops at the 8 min mark.

Put the player into "load" position, and disc will stop spinning. Stylus arm will remain where it is.

Gently push on the stylus arm to see if you can advance it about 2/3 of the way into the disc.

If it advances, turn the lever to "play" and see if the disc will play now that it is past the 8 min mark. Stylus arm will move backward slightly then should play.

If the stylus arm doesn't move forward with gentle manual pressure, that's your clue that it is getting hung up by something at the 8 min mark, like obstruction, or black gear as prior post stated.

If it does move forward manually and play later in the disc, then it has to do with too much tension at the 8 min mark from the landing latch, servo gear rack or somewhere within that area, or slipping clutch.
