I am working on a friend's CED Player that was having the switch issue. I have also found that when the lever is placed in the Play position the turntable is not raising enough to play the disc. It only does that when the lever is placed in the off position. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

WELCOME TO CEDmagic!! I have 10 players, but i'm not worth much repairing them. As soon as one of them pops on, they will have an answer to your problem. Blindfury is about the best at finding solutions to whatever problem you might have.

I'm that friend slvrdragon spoke of.

He is new to CED players. I gave him a prompt to contact a member here through email and that member not having the answer, sent him here.

slvrdragon is fantastic with machines but this is unknown territory working on the player. If people could give my friend advice how to fix it, that would be greatly appreciated.

...I wished Pming wasn't disabled here so Blindfury could be contacted.

Here ya go! http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/repair-solutions.html#misaligned-function-lever-cams

Player Category: F/G Chassis Fault: Misaligned Function Lever Cams
Symptom(s):
The player will not turn off with the function lever in the OFF position and may actually play discs with the lever at OFF but not at PLAY.
Solution(s):
Sometimes F/G players found in thrift stores will play with the function lever in the OFF position, but not in the PLAY position. This is due to a cam misalignment. The way this usually happens is someone unfamiliar with CED loads a caddy into the player leaving the caddy pushed all the way into the player in the mistaken belief that the player works that way. When the function lever is then forcefully switched from LOAD/UNLOAD to PLAY the cams on the function shaft become misaligned. When CED was first introduced, dealers quickly learned they had to avoid unsupervised customer use of the players to prevent this problem from happening. To fix this you need to remove the player cover and use a 0.050" hex key to loosen and realign the two cams, which are located under the turntable to the left of the function lever (don't confuse these with the cams right next to the function lever that are not under the turntable. The left cam controls switch S4 (AC Play) and the right cam switch S2 (AC Power). Adjust the S2 cam so S2 is "off" in OFF and "on" in PLAY. Adjust the S4 cam so S4 is "on" in PLAY and "off" in LOAD/UNLOAD. The function lever elbow behind the function lever should also be inspected for damage.

I really wish I would have taken pics when I had to do this repair as it would make it a thousand times easier to understand. One day tom will or I might even take pics next time I do it.

This should help you fix it!

I Already did that to fix the other problem. This problem is that the Turntable is not raising up high enough for the unit to play discs.

If you adjusted it correctly, then the only thing I can suggest is to try and adjust the tt then. You can do that by taking the yoke screws, spring and black plastic piece out. I forget the size Alan wrench you need but it needs to be long to reach down the center of the tt.

I was told this by a very knowledgeable and reliable person,

The turntable does not raise to the correct play position.

I have seen this problem several times. The fix is to check and reset the Slider Cam adjustment - Go to an F line player service manual, the section on Mechanical Adjustments. The slider cam adjustment is on the first page. ( I can copy that page for just you if you need it?)

The problem is not the TT height adjustment that uses the guage. ( Really this is the styus to TT ht adjustment ).

Note- The white slider cam can be broken if the hex adjustment screw is set too tight - so caution when this adjustment is made.

I have never had to go past the slider cam and tt/stylus height adjustment to get tt back into correct position. So I am not very sure what could be wrong with your machine. Are you able to take pics of player with top cover off (specifically by the function lever and slider cams) and pics with bottom cover off? Hopefully this helps you if not I will keep trying to help ya!

This is a RCA SFT 100. I found the screw that it appears but I am not able to adjust the slider cam after removing the screw.

Very nice! So all works well now, tt is at correct location, off is off and play is play now? I assume you do not need the picture of the sft- mechanical repair page anymore correct?

Email received, good job!
