I was wondering if anyone here knows much about the Dimensia system. I'm curious how many years they made Dimensia components for. Also how many generations there are, I have seen some components with an orange logo and some with a green logo, then there are solid black faced components as well. Just looking for some knowledge. Thanks.

Here is a link to the cedmagic.com web site section which talks about the RCA Dimensia system. It was one of the most expensive home appliances available in the 1980s. RCA produced it from 1984 until General Electric took over RCA in 1986, and then Thomson SA of France continued manufacturing it until about 1989 or 1990.

I own an RCA Dimensia Stereo Monitor 27 inch television, model FPR2723E, which was manufactured August 1987 which still works today. I bought it from a Craigslist advertisement on Thursday, 22 October, 2009. I believe it was considered a "second generation" RCA Dimensia component, but it similar to the "first generation." It is very heavy, at least 100 pounds. It has a large remote control called RCA Dimensia Digital Control. It controls the TV, VCR, phonograph, compact cassette deck, radio tuner, and CD player, which were also sold with the system, but could also be purchased separately. The system also has its own speakers for the stereo. I do not own any of these other components, but they occasionally come up for sale on Ebay.

The first remote control was called the RCA Dimensia Intelligent Audio Video, which is similar to the RCA Digital Command Center remote control, which came with the RCA Colortrak 2000 television, which was also a very high-end model in the 1980s, nearly identical to the RCA Dimensia television.

Here is another link to a fan site all about the RCA Dimensia system. It has some interesting content.

Sorry for the late reply, but I thought you may find all of it interesting.

So from what I understand the components with the green logo are first run from 1984, then second generation have a red/orange logo and are from 1985, lastly in 1986 they changed to black faced components. Does this sound right?

I think so, but I am not absolutely positive, that the first run of RCA Dimensia began in 1984 & lasted until some time in either 1985 or 1986. Some of the components had the green logo & some of them had the red & orange logo; I could not really tell what the distinction was. It seems like RCA Dimensia was changed by 1987 to the black faced components with the Dimensia name written in a different typeface; after 1987 the components were all black with the second typeface, and no green or red/orange logo at all.

The Wikipedia article for RCA Dimensia also has a lot of information about the system.

The Wikipedia page for Digital Command Center is also very helpful.

Has anyone ever seen the turntable with a green logo? I've only seen 3 or 4 different turntables, I know they made at least two different models but they have all had the red/orange logo. It would be nice to put a system together with all matching logos.

Well, if anyone puts one of these RCA systems together and wants to add a laserdisc to it, I have both an RCA and RCA/Proscan LD players with correct original remotes.

The RCA is the LDR-600, you can see it here:

http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laserdisc_archive/rca/rca_ldr600.htm

The Proscan (RCA's high-end brand) is the PSLD-41, seen here:

http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laserdisc_archive/proscan/proscan_psld41.htm

I once had an RCA system setup similar to the dimensia, with RCA 36" TV, RCA VCR, CED Player and LD Player, RCA Stereo Amp, turntable and CD player. The TV finally gave out, and so did the CD player, I got a good offer for the Stereo and turntable, so the setup no longer exists.

If I were to do it again, I'd go with an RCA or Proscan rear projection CRT, but I have too much Pioneer gear now.

I just found these fun pictures online of the RCA Dimensia system. I never knew that it was also sold by J.C. Penney with their name & logos.

They take a few minutes to load, but they are interesting nevertheless.

Several pre-Dimensia components were introduced by RCA in 1987. I have a VHS tape showing the complete product line for that year. This is an RCA internal video that was made for the annual Product Planning meeting.
If you would like this tape contact me. If more then one person wants the tape I will mail it to the first person and ask that it be passed on to others.
