Hi all. I just got out of the hospital on Monday night. I have had some kind of problem going on for a year. I went in the hospital back in Sept and they took out my gall bladder. Went back in on Dec 17th for a surgery, and Christmas night I started to get sick with nausea. I was sick until Friday after throwing up 12 times and not able to get a sip of water down, my wife took me to the hospital. I was so down having to go back and go back. FINALLY Monday evening (last) The doctor came in with good news. They had found my problem. It is called C DIFF, it is a bacteria in the intestine that is really nasty and mean, and very contagious. It seems I picked it up over a year ago from the nursing home my Mom was in. She had been in isolation for weeks, and that seems to be the time I got it. Heres the wild thing. It lay dormant in my intestine because the "good" bacteria held it at bay. The surgery I had on my gall bladder the doctor sent me home with antibiotics, and then the surgery Dec 17th they again sent me home with antibiotics. Now the doctor says the antibiotics I was taking were killing the good bacteria allowing the C Diff to take over, and it very nearly killed me. I will say this, I received a great gift in the fact that someone FINALLY found the problem after over a year. I feel like a member of the human race again!
My wife bought me a very nice Christmas gift I wanted to share with all my CED buddies.

Hey thanks Glenn! It does feel good to be on the mend! Now if I can just keep this weight off.
The replica of RCA's first phonograph, and the Kipper was at an antique mall last Spring, I drooled over it, but it was too expensive to buy, but my wife knows how much I love this format. We went back a time or 2 and I always went back to that booth to drool. The ticket had dates on it, and if it didn't sale, it would of been marked down accordingly, until it went in the "bargin basement" I started to get interested as the date grew closer. We both love antique shops, and this one was 15 miles away, so we didn't go every week, but one Sunday I told the wife I'd like to stop by. I did, and to my horror and shock, IT WAS GONE! That was last June, and sadly I went on my way. I even stopped and asked the owners about it. They looked kind of odd at each other, and then, I found out at Christmas, that my sneaky little wife had gone to buy it, and she took it too her work, and hid it. I was S H O C K E D when my son came in carrying Kipper and my grand daughter the phonograph!? How cool is that?!

Beetle, Sounds like some good luck on your side finally. I posted this elsewhere but I don't think you saw it:

In regards to the LD players, I had a long talk with the number one LD repair guy in the USA, and this is what he told me about the DVL 700 playback problem when it goes to side B:

Well, there's an inside detect switch for side B. There is also a plastic arm that activates the switch. The arm is moved by the optics. It stays in contact with the optics for about 2 to 2 1/2 minutes. The problem is the arm will act like a brake and "hold" the optics from moving. Scanning is possible because of the higher drive signal to the motor. I remove the arm and VERY carefully file down the angle where it contacts the optics. Must be careful, too much and the detect switch won't be actuated. I gave all this info to the regional engineering office with the hope that the part would be re-made. However the part number never changed and the problem still exists. I check every DVL player by monitoring the DC level of the tracking error signal during the first few minutes of B side play. If there is a drag on the optics there is a spike in the DC level of the tracking error signal as the tracking coil tries to keep up with the non moving optics.

Maybe this is something your buddy can take care of as well? I had the problem with a DVL 919 and fixed it not by filing, but by a little lubricant, and now it is just fine, though it may crop up again later and need relubed.

Anyway, I still like the DVL 700 styling and it does play great with super picture quality. Plus it has all the output options anybody would ever want.
