| I have a SFT100W that was given to me. When i play it it goes from B/W to color with distortions bars across screen, When picture is acting up it shifts slightly to the right. So far i have removed platter and removed grease and cleaned shaft and bearings then added new grease. The symptom did not change. A video friend of mine thinks it is servo related. The motor appears to stay the same speed at all times. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

That symptom is most often a weak or slightly loose drive belt that cannot grip with enough force to keep the turntable at proper sync speed.
You didn't say that you had changed that belt as yet. |

| Thank you. Belt seems fine. Good elastisity and seems fine. Informed it is the original belt from 1981. Tried rubber rejuv on belt and cured problem. Ordered one from a distributor and is on its way. |

Even if belt feels okay, sometimes it isn't.
I recently had a similar problem that wasn't exactly the belt, but instead was the turntable height being off cause by a slightly off load lever cam. The belt was at just a hair too much angle to ride properly and evenly (smoothly). Fixing the turntable height did the trick. |

So, Addie and Addie123, did you join just to parrot what I wrote?
That's what your two posts do so far. |

Tried new belt from PRB (TT7) They crossed. Seems much smaller than original. Problem is much worse now. Went back to original belt and really cleaned TT platter and motor shaft, also used a thin cutting oil on bearing and shaft. seems to work fine at this point but will continue to test and use.
Thanks to all for input. |

| I've gotten new belts supposedly correct size that were too tight to work properly. They bind the motor and cause all sorts of trouble. Often a good cleaning up of the old belt will do the job. |
