Howdy,

I just got my Hitachi player off Ebay in the mail a week ago. The belts were gooified so I ordered new ones and put them on. It was working great until I started tweaking the tolerance screws on the motherboard to try to correct some of the visual problems I was having. Like the picture was to bright, that type of thing. I must of tweaked the wrong one because the player starts rotating the disc then the stylus moves towards the disc. It looks like it's about to start reading then stops and goes back to the original start position. So in short I goofed up. Embarassed

Would anyone happen to have high def pictures of the motherboard so I can tweak the tolerance screws back to their factory setting? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't help you, but I've been in your shoes before. I think it's called "curiosity killed the cat." Thinking you can fix stuff with no idea what your doing, lol. I've learned it's better to ask the group here before messing with anything I'm not familar with and it's saved my butt a few times. Just a friendly message and best of luck with your player. I'm sure somebody can help you here.

Is there no way you can just reverse what you did?

@Ketonic

lol Yep, I got that "if it ain't broke don't fix it" feeling afterward. I'm kicking myself for not taking a picture of the motherboard before.

@Rixrex

I'm going to try tweaking it more this week. We'll see what happens.

When I got my first player back in 1982 it was a Hitachi built player sold thru Sears. I tried those tweaks your talking about. I marked the pots with a marker so I could always bring them back to the factory settings. I found out the factory settings were right on the money.

Photo number 2 shows a red arrow to the tolerance screw I was adjusting. It's labeled D.O.C. Freq. When all this started I was adjusting it while the player was playing the disc. All the sudden the TV made a high pitched squeal then the player returned the stylus to the start position. If anyone has any ideas or a similar model please post some pics. I'm out of ideas. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Yeah, I would try turning it back to approximately where it was originally.

Otherwise, send a note to CEDATUM.COM

Seems like something they could help you with just offhand.

I tried turning them back and increment adjustments. Embarassed Nothing.... I'm thinking that specific "pot" adjusts the speed of the turntable. Yes, thanks, I'll e-mail them tonight.

Should I post my results if I get it working?

The more I mess around with it after reading some of the CED Magic website. That its probably the stylus needs replacing. My tinkerings were just a timed coincidental part of the stylus failing.

I was finally able to adjust the pots back to their original positions because I found a picture of the motherboard I took when I first opened the cover.
