Just got a SFT100 W off of ebay and it doesn't play. The box it came in doesn't look like it was handled with care.
I'm going to make a few assumptions here because I don't have a manual and I've never seen one of these in action.
It powers up and I get a flashing L which I assume means "Load" and I'm able to load and unload the disc.
But it looks like it is skipping through the whole disc in about 10 seconds. I can see brief pictures with sound and the "Play Time" led which I assume counts in minutes, counts rapidly and stops when the pictures stop flashing. Then the E starts flashing, which I assume means "End". It also sounds and feels like the disc is still spinning when the "E" is flashing which might be normal.
Anybody know what might cause this or what I might look for when I take the cover off?
I'm glad I found this forum and I've bookmarked it. I've learned quite a bit already just skimming through the posts.
Any help or advice will be appreciated.
Thanks, colt. |

First thing, did the ebay listing for your player state that it was working, or non-working? You can get a full refund if it's supposed to be working, or maybe better, try for a partial refund and keep and fix the player.
Best place to start is in the regular CEDmagic website here:
http://www.cedmagic.com/selectavision.html
Under Technical Information, the link is CED Player Repair Solutions.
Check the 1st one on the list, worn out stylus tip, sounds like your problem. Try a good, known working stylus. If you don't have one, you can send yours to the folks at Cedatum.com for rebuilding.
See if the seller is willing to give you some refund towards the rebuilding of the stylus. |

Exactly right rick. See if you can refund or return or any possible solution with seller if it was advertised as working.
It cant be said enough or stressed enough on how many problems can be solved with just a known working stylus. As rick stated cedatum is the best and likely only option to make sure you have a known working stylus! _________________ I dont own

Welcome to the hobby Colt!
You're in good company here. Bummer though about your first player not working. CED players are heavy and rarely "handled with care". Ebay sellers never seem to pack them quite good enough to handle shipping abuse. I've had a couple 'working' players show up DOA, after taking a postal beating.
If right after loading, the player attempts to play a disc, but then skips to the end after a few seconds, than the stylus tip may very well be shot. If the tip is good, then the stylus shaft could be bent or twisted. I've actually had a NOS one with this problem right out of the box! In any case the stylus will need to be rebuilt. A recent ebay auction for a 'new' RCA Mono stylus ended near $100. A rebuilt one from CEDatum.com is about one third the cost. They may also have new ones for considerably less$$.
If your stylus turns out to be good, than there is a good chance the servo drive belt is stretched and slipping. One indicator of this is a somewhat distorted picture which lasts few seconds, then repeats a few times before the flashing "E". CEDmagic.com has SFT replacement belts for $2.00 under "Products available for purchase".
Best of luck in getting your SFT 100 up and running!

I forgot about the bent stylus tip. I had one that did that and member CBertra mentioned the tip with a guide on how to gently straighten it. I did that and now it is fine.
But I wouldn't recommend this to somebody new who may only have one stylus. Better to send it to Cedatum. |

Welcome to CEDMAGIC, Colt!
I'm very sorry you are having a bad experience, the first time, and I hope you get it fixed, or better yet get your money back so you can get another one. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you end up with a decent player. |
