I was recently chatting with one of my friends who is an engineer. I had him look at one of my discs and explained to him why they wore out. He took it home with him and did some test. He "hypothises" that if you store the discs out of they caddys, and manually insert them into the player with the cover off, you can make your discs last "forever" . I told him that even the most serious collector wouldnt go through all of that trouble to save a disc unless it was very rare. I myself figure it's just better to transfer them onto vhs. Just a theory. Post your thoughts!

The early CED had problem with a contamination in the carbon black which makes the plastic conductive. This contamination was eliminated that would cause the disc to age.
Don't take the disc out of the caddy. The enemy is dust, fingerprints & dirt. You may want to periodically clean the player of paper fibers from the caddy.
