|
|
I just recieved an RCA CED player I ordered online. Stereo with remote. The player loads and unloads flawlessly but will not go in to play mode. I have tried several movies I have with the same results. ( yes I did remove the shipping screws)
Anny clues as to what the problem may be. I viewd it online playing a movie before I ordered it. The seller did put up arrows on shipping box and marked fragile/vintage on box. UPS man left box on its side when I found it.
Thank you |

Do you have a known working stylus to test with? It is also possible the shippers beat it up nicely even if it had shipping screws Was it insured? _________________ I dont own

Thank you for responding
I do have a stylus I know that works but with same result. It does everthing but play. It makes a soft clicking sound when trying to play as if trying to play. It may be just an adjustment. The seller packed it really good. Thankfully it is insured. Model is STJ-300 with remote |

No problem! I have heard the sound you speak of. I think it is the stylus trying to set down and you hear the soft click of the solenoid letting the stylus trying to make contact with the disc. If it is that, the only thing I have done to fix it was use a different stylus that has been checked or rebuilt by cedatum team. It is possible that it is something else, but it is hard to tell with out a video or having the player physically in my hands :/ You could check the turntable height from underneath entire player with the stylus adjustment screw. or take out the turntable and make sure the turntable shaft is 30/32nds of an inch exposed underneath. If it was too low you would hear a louder rubbing noise that is very fast. _________________ I dont own

| That is exactly what it is doing. I have watched it several times trying to make contact with the disc. Maybe both of my stylus are bad. Is it possible to send a video on this forum of what it is doiong? |

No attachments at these forums but you can make a video, upload to youtube or the like and post link here! It is possible they are bad styli they are delicate and can get messed up in shipping process especially if they were already on their last leg ya know!. Send them to cedatum soon so they get back soon. Try them out and if it does the same thing it is the players problem likely a demod or something of that order and you can have cedatum repair it or you can claim the insurance from it! _________________ I dont own

Yes, that's the first thing to test it with, a good known-working stylus. If you have to send the stylus to the CEDatum labs for cleaning or rebuild, you will get it back in proper condition to get the player to work if that's all the problem is.
Over half of the SJT/SKT models I ship or get shipped to me have a problem with the turntable slipping up or down the center stem. When they slip down, which is most common, they will scrape on the case below the turntable, but often will still play. When they slip upward, which happens less often but is possible, then they exhibit the symptoms you are talking about. In either case, it's easy to remedy this.
However, more common to that described symptom is a stylus that isn't good, so check that first. |

Ironically I find that on June 28th 2012 I also have a non-working CED Player. I am actually shocked that these forums exist and are this active (as in posts today,) but hopefully someone can tell me what's going on with mine.
I have an SGT-200 which I bought used 6 years ago, it has worked up until now but I use it very infrequently, with 2 years ago probably being the last time I used it. Today when I tried to use it, it simply never showed video or played audio when a disc was in it, I tried multiple discs including one I have watched before. The LED display never showed anything other than -- For the first time ever I removed the access panel to look into the guts of the machine and what I noticed was that the disc was loading correctly, and spinning, but the electronic "arm" that moves the stylus wasn't moving ever. Oddly, I did tilt the player a bit as well as hit the rapid search buttons when the movie I had seen before was in it and I was able to get bad red, green, and blue banded video at regular speed as if the disc was playing, but never audio, the movie did play for several minutes and the LED displayed "0" when this happened. I am pretty sure this isn't a stylus problem, but I don't know what exactly is wrong or how I got video without audio. Any clues? Thanks. |

| General, maybe post your SGT 200 problem in a new thread. You'll get faster and better responses that way, and it will stay on topic Thanks! |

Right, it would never work properly with the stylus cover off, or even loose, since the cover has two protrusions that release the stylus from tabs holding it within the cartridge.
The metal cover must be on properly and latched. |

Agreed. Often the new ones in the box ca still be defective from age. You'd have to send it to CEDatum then anyway.
$60 is too much for the stylus unless it has a full maney back guarantee if it doesn't work. They usually don't offer such a guarantee due to fear of getting back a bad stylus as an unknown swap.
Cedatum's service is less than that anyway. |
