Hi CEDMagic Fans and Collectors!

I'm new to the forums but I am not new to the CED format. Unfortunately, I have not seen one of these since 1998. I grew up with the format and it was a popular item with my family. Sadly, VHS took over. I enjoy watching movies (or at least have them play while I'm doing college studies) and take interest in any format. However, I find myself taking more interest in the past formats over today's digital garbage. DVDs and Blu-Rays are OK to a point but they are lacking in the quality department as far as I am concerned.

Case in point, I'm currently collecting for LD, VHS and DVD with the hopes of getting back a decent CED player. My movie collection is small as I am concentrating on machines first. I mention DVDs because it almost seems as if they are on the verge of becoming obsolete. Not likely but they are sharing the same price drops that CEDs, LDs, and VHS seen before leaving the market.

My current movie players is a Pioneer CLD-V2600 acquired damaged. It has been fixed by me and works like a champ. However, it is missing the Pioneer emblem and doesn't have the remote. The VCR is a JVC Hi-Fi from the local Goodwill for $8. Very nice player but again...no remote (what is it with players missing their remotes?). The Blu-Ray player doubles as a DVD Player and is one of those player/surround sound systems by RCA.

Sorry for the lengthy post but thought I should introduce myself as well. With that being said, where all do you find your CED items? Online? Local stores? I ask because I want to avoid EBAY as much as possible. I've viewed some other posts and located DJPRO. I've already contacted him and I appreciate the immediate response. It's hard to find that these days.

I'm mostly interested in RCA Selectavision Videodisc Players and hope to get a stereo model someday. But considering that most of the CED pressings are mono I'm not too picky.

Nice meeting you! Welcome to the CED forum! I hope you like it.

To answer your question, one way I find CED items is I look on classified web sites for the San Diego area by typing "CED", "Selectavision", "Video disc", or sometimes "Laserdisc", since even today the 2 formats or sometimes confused with other.

Just like you, I do not usually buy things on Ebay, but I like to just look at what people are selling on Ebay. If I see something which looks interesting, which I think someone on the CED forum would like, then I post it on the topic "Ebay Selectavision related listings, post your finds here". I do not really like buying things on Ebay because it is too much work paying for shipping & handling, and also having to use credit card information online. I own 3 CED players, which I have all found locally on online advertisements.

Sometimes, I go to the thrift stores & antique stores in search of CED, CED players, & other kinds of vintage audio & video, but most of the time I just quickly leave empty-handed, since these kinds of things are long gone from thrift stores. There is no longer anything there which interests me; all of the electronics they have are from the 1990s & 2000s.

I hope my story ansers your question, and good luck with your CED adventures.

Welcome to Our Club!!!!!! There is a place on Ebay that I have bought 100s of CEDs from this guy, he is extremely fair. If you buy a CED and it doesn't play well, let him know, he will give you a full refund. Not only that, but when you buy multiple discs, he always throws a "complimentary" Movie. He has a great discount on multiple discs too. He also sells some Laser Discs and CED players. I too was into CEDs back in the 80s, it is my favorite format by far. There is also an RCA Selectavision Video Disc facebook page as well as a "for sale or trade" page as well.

When I started collecting (1994) I would hit the thrift stores in at least one area of town each week, and the flea markets whenever I could get up early enough. This was before Ebay and the like so it was a lot harder to find discs, and I truly thought I was the only one on the planet who wanted them! I had thought about just collecting certain titles, but once I got my first player and realized how hard discs were to find, I figured I should just pick up every one I ran into and 13 years later I had every title.

A few months into collecting I put an ad in a local classifieds paper, and got a few hundred discs that way. It almost cleaned out my bank account, but by this point I was obsessed! I didn't even know how many titles were out there, I had read somewhere that it was only 500 so I thought I was close to having them all. I still hit the flea markets and thrift stores and kept finding stuff I didn't know was out on CED.

When Ebay came along I got the rest of the "urgent" CEDs I wanted, then one day I finally just started bidding on every CED I didn't already have until I finally got them all ("Greatest Fights of the 70s" from MGM was the very last one.)

I still keep an eye out for the extremely rare discs that were never sold to the public, some of my discs are also in less-than-perfect condition so I try to replace those as I discover them too. I have enough players to last a lifetime so I don't pick those up anymore.
