I have 7 CED players hooked up in my special CED Room, wtih 4 monitors.

I have 2 of the that have just the coaxial output, the others have RCA output. and I hooked my old Onkyo receiver up to it. It is a great way to pre play the ceds before sitting down with the popcorn..

My Zenith VP2000 was a gift that I cherish, A very good friend gave it to me. THANK YOU DEAN!!!! It is pictured above.

Here is a shot of my CED room, I have about 700 discs, the first set of crates came from Target, they are ITSO plastic crates. I stacked sttrips of hard wook between to prevent sagging. The cabinet on the left is also from Target. It is made of wood.

Hey, where is you new and nice Pioneer CLD-S104 laserdisc player?

Don't be ashamed of it! It deserves mentioning and a photo also. After all, Fury has one now as well.

Here's a great LD box set of 9 Val Lewton fright classics from the 1940s, none of which can be found on CED sadly:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170787186428?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

In the olden days, this box set would bring closer to $70 to $80.

This is one of my CED players in a home entertainment rack:

The top shelf has my BSR Mcdonald turntable, the next shelf has my Sears 934.547150 CED player that I bought in 1983 and the shelf below it is a Pioneer CLD-980 laserdisc player. The very bottom shelf shows a Sony A/V switcher that takes the composite video from the CED and LD players and converts it to s-video. The switcher's output is then fed into a balun that sends the audio and video onto my network category 5 cabling where it then goes to another balun and then to a switcher and then to my Sony STR-DE935 A/V amp

This is the heart of my A/V setup:
.

Starting on the top from left to right:
Sony Bluray player
RCA Stereo VHS deck
On top of the VCR is a LaFayette LA-424 Quadnaural amp for quadriphonic sound.
Sony STR-DE935 amp

My monitor is a 27" Sony Wega CRT that only does 480i.

On the left are 4 shelves:
Top shelf is my DirectTV receiver
Second shelf has a Sony MDP-600 laserdisc player
Third shelf down is an SJT-200 player
Bottom shelf has a Pioneer CT-W330 audio cassette deck

This where I store my CED movies:

This is a closet in my living room where I store my laserdiscs. On the shelf above the laserdiscs is my DVD changer for my DVD movies (duh). The very bottom space is where I have my network switchers and cat 5 terminations.

I am not showing my 2 Sony CD changers. They are located in a spare bedroom closet. The audio from them goes into an audio balun which transmits the audio over my cat 5 cabling to another balun where the sound then goes into my Sony amp.

Nice setup. The only thing I'd change out is the TV for a newer Sony Wega XBR set of 36" or 40" and HD capable, would you have room for that?

Well, I guess I'd also change the LD player for a Panasonic Prism LX1000u dual side player maybe, or a vintage look Sony MDP-1700AR with pure composite output.

Since LDs are recorded in composite format, you might find the composite output to TV is a better picture than the conversion to S-video, depending on the Sony's comb filter. But on a 27" set, that may be unnoticable.

I eventually will get a new HDTV but I am restrained financially right now. As for room, I will probably have to change the entertainment center to a much larger one or accept an HDTV that could fit where the Sony is now. A newer LD player could be an improvement.

I am converting the composite to s-video only because my balun can only transmit s-video. Personally, I cannot see any difference between composite and s-video on this Sony TV. Both of them give the same PQ to me.

I didn't think you'd notice a difference on a 27" CRT set. But you probably will once you get up to 36" and above, partly depending upon the LD player and the set.

Since LDs are recorded in composite format, to go to S-video requires a filtering step to split the signal using either a 2D or 3D comb filter. All LD players with S-video output hae a built in comb filter, but often the TV set comb filter on newer or more expensive TV sets is better. In that case, the composite output gives you a better picture.

VHS and CEDs are not recorded in composite format, so S-video output on VHS machines is typically a better picture. But no CED players have S-video output. But CEDs still look great on any CRT set. I love how they look on my Sony XBR HD CRT set.

My Sony MDP-600 LD player has both composite and s-video outputs (2 of each). I feed the s-video to my TV through my amp. The player also has an optical output for the digital sound which I feed to my amp by a fiber cable. My amp will take both line level and optical input for sound with the optical taking priority over the line level. However, my MDP-600 continues to send an optical carrier to the amp even if the LD being played has no digital sound as in an 8" music LD I have (David Bowie). The result is that a non-digital sound LD is played on the MDP-600 without any sound coming out of the speakers. This presented a problem so I hooked up my Pioneer CLD-980 so I can play an LD without digital sound as the Pioneer player has only line level audio outputs.

Why is it that things are never simple?

That's interesting. Do you notice any difference in picture quality between the Sony and the Pioneer? If the Pioneer has better picture, then I guess leave it be.

I suppose if you wanted the both-side play feature and the digital sound without using the LDs DA convertor, you could just hook up the Sony via the analog outputs only, or you have to switch the amp input choice yourself rather than be set on automatic.

The PQ is maybe a tad better with the Pioneer. Where I seem to notice it is in scenes with a black background (say a picture of the night sky). The Pioneer has a deeper black than the Sony. I will continue to use the Sony as the digital sound definitely outweighs the PQ issue.

There is no choice for which sound source (digital or line level) is used by the amp. That is factory set and there is no way of changing it. The only way I can see to set it is to break the optical connection and then the amp will use the line level using an optical switch.

FYI: The Pioneer has a problem which I did not notice years ago. When playing a CD, the music has a definite distortion to it. Also, the player wants to skip and on one track it actually went double time. LD's play fine both 8" and 12". Since I don't normally use it for CD playback, this problem is not a deal breaker for me. I either use my bluray or my CD changers for CD playing. Any ideas as to why the Pioneer is having a problem with CD playback?
