I have recently fixed my dad's old Toshiba VP100, brand new belts and drive pulleys. Most of the time, it reads a disc no problem, but sometimes, it just doesn't pick anything up, but after leaving for an hour or so, it's ready to go again.
Is this a common problem?
Can I fix this? How?
Thanks in advance |

personally I have had 3 toshiba's, 1 wards, and 1 elmo, all clone/shiba player's go through my hands and I have never seen that problem. I wish I knew but I can try and help ya
What exactly happens when it stops working? Does the turntable still spin? Does the stylus arm move? What does the LCD display do when it stops working? Have you tried another stylus? _________________ I dont own

It keeps spinning, I don't think the Stylus arm moves, the LED display shows "- -" as if it's still loading, I don't have any other styluses to try. _________________ Toshiba VP-100 est Tres Magnifique! |

| I also have 2 shiba's in my stockpile and neither of them work. I'm going to try to figure things as I really want them working out but I may pick your brain on your experience with these players... |

Pull the top off and look at the tracking arm. In a free state the arm should be perpendicular to the guide rods or rod. you can check it with a square if need be. I have had this happen to two Toshiba players. During shipping or just a good jolt the arm is so flimsy that the arm gets bent so that when the arm moves to the disc the stylus drops and it doesn't pick up a signal. The stylus automaticly retracts back up and the turntable continues to spin and the display shows "--". I gently bent the arm back to square and that cured the problem on both players. |
