I found a third monitor for my CED room on Ebay. Unfortunately, the only "IN" or "OUT" on the monitor is a VGA. Apparently it is just for computers. I found an adapter that i'm hoping will work, but before I get it, I wanted to run it past some of your electronic whizzes in here! I want to use the monitor with one of my players. Will this work? http://www.amazon.com/VGA-Adapter-S-Video-Cable-Video/dp/B000Y7T5UU/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_b

Or am I completely backwards on it? I would LOVE any help you guys can give me. If this won't work, is there anything that will?

Thanks!!!!!

That might work, but I have my doubts about it since it's supposed to go from PC video monitor output to convert to TV. The weird thing about it is that it has audio cables?! As far as I know, no PC 15 pin vga output also outputs sound. So I'm suspicious but at least its cheap.

However, I have a suggestion that will work and will also be useful for future TV use as well. The DVDO/Silicon Image company made a couple of different simple video enhancers a few years ago that convert composite or S-video to RGB for PC monitors or Y-Pb-Pr for use on modern TVs. They are the DVDO plus and the later DVDO pro.

Either of these two would do the job, seen here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DVDO-iScan-Plus-/250975358741?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6f4c0f15

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silicon-Image-DVDO-iScan-Pro-Pure-Progressive-Line-Doubler-/220936333781?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3370d4e9d5

The plus model will accept two composite inputs and one S-video, and is great for standard 4:3 monitors (or TV).

The pro model accepts 1 composite, 1 s-video and 1 DVD input, and has a switch for either widescreen monitors or standard monitors (or TV).

The DVDO ultra is a great one as well, has more inputs and a lot more features:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DVDO-ISCAN-ULTRA-HIGH-PERFORMANCE-VIDEO-PROCESSOR-/140682440104?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20c153ada8

I moved up to a DVDO HD, but I still have my plus and ultra models.

Make it easy and cheap on your self. Unless you were looking for what rix was showing you^

Get this for the video http://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-VGA-S-Video-AV-RCA-TV-Out-Converter-Adapter-Cable-/280809848988?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item416192409c I know vga cords have the same two ends and it will allow your monitor to take an rca yellow video plug no problem. Just no coaxial players can connect to monitor unless you get what rix has up there or another adapter.

and then do the audio however you want. I assume you are taking the audio to 2 rca plugs on a single receiver anyways right?

So I can use this with any player that has RCA out plugs? I don't need a special video card? Thanks for the help!

I actually only have my SGT250 running through my Onkyo receiver, but it would be easy enough to hook all my players that have RCA outs. So this one you showed, (I bought it) has an RCA & a SVideo. Obviously there isn't an Svideo on any of my players, so it will still work even though I only use the RCA for video? My intention is to hook up my beautiful Realistic player I got from Rick, to this monitor. it has only one audio out, but I can run that through my receiver, I already have a "Y" cord so I can plug both a R&L RCA plug into the receiver. I'm getting excited!!!!!
Thanks guys for the help. If this works, i'm going to get another monitor and have all four hooked up to run. Smile It will look more busy than Bryan Gumbles news room at 6:00 pm!!!

Yes it will work, that s-video is just another way to connect something. You could get an rca to svideo adapter and have two rca yellow in hahah!

I forgot to tell you that the DVDO units convert to 480 progressive scan to match the PC monitor and modern TV sets with DVD style inputs.

Both RGB (VGA) and Y-Pb-Pr are analog formats.

The DVDO Ultra also has a digital video output DVI interface for such sets as the Sony Wega XBR and others with digital video inputs.

Ah thats a bummer Sad I will buy it off you though so it's not a waste! I can use it somewhere. Have you only tried one player on it? I really wonder why it wouldnt work I have used many weird adapters like this. One was an svideo to rca which worked both ways to or from a monitor and tv. Did you make sure player was playin a ced, not just turned on? Have you tried the monitor on your pc, vga style hooked up?

I would say it's the monitor. I tried it on my Realistic & my SGT250 both and it said the same thing. I'm going to try it again. I'm thinking I'll sell the monitor. It didn't cost that much, just over 2 bucks. You are welcomed to it. You still wanting Jaws III? I can send it with the movie.

Yes sir I have been looking for a jaws 3 for while now! I know... idk how I cant find it Confused Before you sell the monitor make sure you try it connected on a pc with a vga cord to be for sure its the monitor not working not the cord ya know. If it doesn't work on a pc it's definitely the monitor. Either way I do want jaws 3 and if the cord is not needed I will take that too!

Hmm, I asked for Jaws 3 a while back in the trade and you didn't want to give it up. Oh well, you sent good discs.

Anyway, I suspected that device wouldn't work in reverse, and probably not the other way either. PT Barnum knew that, if you took a dime (in those days) for admission to a sideshow and the show wasn't worth it, nobody would care much because it was only a dime. But he got rich on millions of dimes taken in.

The only devices that would do what you wanted would have circuitry to do the proper convertng.

Yep it that alls true, but ya never know till ya try if it really works or not. At least it was a cheap mistake and since I directed him that way I definitely want to make sure its not a loss for him. I know I can use it, heck I even bought one. Ill hook up one of my crap pc's to a tv! I've done it before not just with that adapter. Plus he still needs to try the monitor on a real pc to see if will receive any signal at all! Then we can 100 percent say cord was poop ahah !

Sry postin from my crackberry ahah its not easy

I got mine today and it does in fact work just not the way we wanted.

ced player to vga = no

laptop vga to rca = no

Desktop pc with video card vga to rca = YES!

Desktop pc with no video card and crap on board video = no

Definitely meant for pc's only

Meh it will suffice for what I need, at least I don't feel like a carnie who made pt barnum rich anymore hahaha!
