Very interesting. What is on those discs? I have only seen pictures of them in the US CED Title Database, where they are listed as "very rare" & "extremely rare."

Where did you find those? It took me YEARS to find some of those (1984 Video Systems is the easiest to find out of those. Those white Video Communications discs seem to have been thrown out by many dealers that received them.) I have all 3 volumes of World War II with Walter Cronkite- I don't know the story on why these are rare. There were more volumes produced on VHS and Beta which were sold through Columbia House, but only the first 3 are known to exist on CED. Did nobody buy them on that format, or were they printed and then pulled at the last minute?

I've put all of these discs except for the World War II ones (someone probably still cares about the copyright for that) on YouTube- just search for the titles. I've included notes about most of them too, like the "Catch the Wave" disc has a reprint of the stereo demo disc on side 2.

I got the video systems and the communications ed.3 from rix! I was told they likely wont play great:(

I got the gene kelly, video monitors, communications ed.1, and aloha which has packing tape in the shape of a plus on the back of caddy Sad from a buy on ebay that was an sft-100 and 13 disc's including those 4!

The world war II vol 1 I got on ebay from one of those ad's that are 100's of disc's pick one deal! So surprised no one saw it.

The reason as far as I know the WWII ones are hard to find is cause you had to mail out for them which makes them even harder to find... how the hell you got all 3 is crazy to me hahah! Got any dupes hahahah?

The 3 WWII discs I got sealed along with a never-used SGT-250 which is now my main player, along with a bunch of other sealed discs. I bid on it mainly to get the WWII discs but the player was certainly a great find in its own right. I don't know the exact story of where they came from. From another Ebay seller I got a never-used Hitachi player in the box, they said someone got it for Christmas or something and never bothered hooking it up!

First part of "Memories of Videodisc": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIT7sStctbA (I uploaded this in several parts since YouTube had a time limit then- too lazy to list them all right now but should be easy to find from this one.)

Someone should set up a "sticky" list of all CED-related videos available online, including demo discs and TV commercials. I would love to see a definitive collection of the commercials put together some day.

Actually one of the discs does play well, the 1984 video systems disc. The comm ed 3 is the one that has a weird warbling effect the 1st 20 mins of each side, like a manufacturing defect, but then plays just fine after that.

But the LDs are all good.

So anyone know how many of the World War II discs were made, and if they were actually sold through mail-order or if they were scrapped at the last minute?

I had a duplicate of Volume 1 which I re-sold on Ebay when I got my new sealed discs. Only one person bid on it and I made a whole 5 dollars, it was the only time I've actually sold anything on Ebay. I paid ridiculous amounts for some of those dealer-only discs; when I got the Gene Kelly one I almost got it cheap, then someone outbid me at the last minute then somehow backed out of buying it so it was put back up for auction again and I got it that time but paid a lot more than I would have if the outbidder hadn't come along the first time.

Speaking of copyrights, does any one know if these RCA discs, which are posted on You Tube, are now in the public domain, since RCA is long gone? I have heard about people on You Tube getting in trouble for having music in their videos, or posting copyrighted material.

I am not sure what is public domain. The only people getting in trouble on youtube are repeat copyright offenders. If you do it a few times the video just gets pulled, video blacked or audio muted depending on what the copyright infraction it is! I am sure your account would be disabled or banned before you got sued by anyone. Just normal dmca take downs by greedy peoples Sad
