I just fired up a CED player I received with a 100 disc collection (it is either the SFT100, SGT100, or the SGT101 - how would I know which one? - The one I have has woodgrain)

It plays a minute or so of video and then it skips back to an earlier section of video and plays the same 4 frames or so again and again. You can even fast forward the video to a few minutes or more in and it will sometimes skip back to the 4 frame sequence all the way back at the beginning of the disc.

Any help identifying the problem would be appreciated!

Read though these CED Repair Solutions:

You'll find your problem there, most likely worn out servo drive belt.

I read the guide and that is how I narrowed it down to either of those two belts. I don't have a player that has page mode so I'm not exactly sure what that looks like. If I posted a video of what is going on would that help someon determine which belt is at fault?

Well, that player has only two belts:

1. Servo Drive Velt
2. Turntable Drive Belt

The Servo belt does duty as the stylus arm drive belt via a series of gears and a clutch. So best to replce that Servo belt, I'd say, and maybe buy the turntable belt at the same time to have it available.

sounds good, picture quality looks O.K. so the stylus is fine.
i'll order some belts and off i go!!
after fixing arcade machines and some pinballs these aren't that bad.
but it's not that easy, like i tell my girlfriend, it's common sense!! Laughing
