Hello. I picked up a sft 100 yesterday and I tried to put a disc inside and, after taking off the portion where you replace a needle, on the right hand side of the machine there is a black shark fin shaped piece of plastic that is preventing the disc from loading into the machine.

How do I fix this? What is that piece that's preventing me from loading the disc? How do I take top off? Do I need to? There are screws that look like coke bottle caps on the bottom portion. How do I take those off?

Also, why is info so scarce about the repair of these things online? You think scans of owners manuals and repair guides would of leaked online over the past 20 years, but nope! :/

the repair manuals are mostly online. they are on a shared drive on facebook. josh gibson should be able to lead you in the right direction for digitized manuals

that sharkfin thing is the "pickup arm pushback assembly". It should be locked in that position and as you insert the caddy it pushes the pickup arm all the way "back" to it's "home" position. Once it gets there there is a small metal rod that contacts something and that presses a release to allow that sharkfin to move out of the way allowing the caddy to be fully inserted.
For a manual the sgt200 manual should work it just has add'l info for stereo features of the unit.
If I were you I'd use the 100 as a unit to inspect discs. That's what I use mine for. I've removed the cartridge arm and the control board or whatever so when I insert the disc I can inspect it without touching it. With the 100 only having rf output you need a pretty old tv that accepts analog signals. I'd try to get another player that has rca jacks for output and I'd get a stereo unit.
The sgt200 manual has all the info for getting the player apart. You'll probably need to get the cover off it and see what's going on.
