Well, today I got the arm drive belt and the loading belt for my second Sears 934.54780150 player. I just installed them and tested the player. It works 99% perfect. The 1% it lacks is the loading mechanism seems a bit stiff. Does anyone have any instructions on lubircating the load/unload mechaniism?

I played The World of Henry Orient and noticed some video and audio noise. Since this player has a used needle, I tried my copy of Splash and the video noise disappeared. The audio had a little noise which quickly vanished. I have to remember that Splash has CX encoding which is supposed to reduce audio noise. The image of Splash is very good. It is hard to believe that the needle is ~30 years old and has had a lot of use.

Looks like you're due for a good needle service from CEDATUM.

I always use lithium grease to lubricate as it's inert and stays in place. It's what was commonly used for LD players from the 90s.

Another easily available lubricant that will work is petroleum jelly. SInce it's distilled from oil, it has properties of all hydrocarbon lubricants except that it is not suitable for high pressure applications. So it's very good for lubricating lightweight moving parts of players and plastic parts since it's inert toward other oil products like plastic. it also stays in place very well.

Would it be a good idea to add a touch of lubricant to the grooves that the disk rides as it is being pushed into the player? This player I changed belts on is a little stiff at pushing the videodisc in with a resultant squeak now and then.

As I recall, those players actually have a metal framed caddy loading tray. If so, I see no proble with lubricating that tray and the edges of the ced caddy can probably withstand it.

However that may cause trouble when you go to load the caddy into an SJT or SKT model player. Remember those players have rollers that grab the caddy near the edge on both sides to pull it in and eject it from the player.

You might just look for lubricating points along the tray that won't get it on the caddy too.

I have an SFT100 player that has color "bleeding" in and out of color, and the picture goes in and out of focus. I know what's wrong with it, and Ryan has sent me step by step instructions, and everything is ready, EXCEPT ME! I have so little confidence in myself, I know i'll mess it up. I am terrible at doing the little things like this. However, i'm going to give it a try and see what happens. I will keep you posted. That in a way will be rescuing a player:)

So it looks like you're going to replace the drive belt, is that it?

Just take it slowly a step at a time, and you'll be fine. Make sure you have the proper tools handy too.

actually according to Ryan, it needs to have the turntable lubed. (and some other parts)

I'll give it a try, and see what happens.

It could be a number of things actually but the main reason for that is because turntable is not going fast enough rpm wise. Which can be a belt problem, turntable motor problem, turntable problem, or last but not least drive poles, which need the synchronizer plate gage or trial and error adjustment of the drive poles. It is easier than it sounds but can be a pain in the butt!

The thing I found most difficult dealing with the SFT/SGT turntable was the two small screws that hold it down at the spindle. One needs the exact right size phillips screwdriver to get them loose or they can strip out. Also I used some penetrating oil and a couple of very light taps on the screwdriver sitting in the screw head to help a little before loosening them.

Anybody have any other tips on removing these two screws?

I know Ryan (blindfury) said he found a particular screwdriver at Mejier that works perfectly. Ryan can you show a picture of it?

Yes I can!
click they get bigger!

The black case with bits I bought at a local hardware store for like 5 bucks but two of the bits fit pretty nice still have to be super careful though!

The meijer one is of course from meijers, not sure where you are located but its mainly a midwest grocery store hahah! Either way it has a level and a light and says dickies and meijers on the back of it. Works pretty good also but still gotta be careful.

Only other thing I can think of is to ask cedatum for the kind he gets from japan. It's the closest he can find to exact as far as I know!
