Hello everybody.
I have had CED movies since 1983 when I bought my first player, a Sears Hitachi. I still have the player which is not working currently. I do have new belts for it. I just need the nerve to open it up and see what is wrong. In the late 1980's I bought a refurbished SJT-200 from a company in Washington state. It worked okay until the belts inside it turned to goo. Fortunately, I came across cedmagic.com and got the belts for it. A quick replacement of them and the player is my currently active one. I like the SJT-200's as they have stereo out jacks.
Back in 1987, I bought a new stylus for my Sears player from Sears (duh). It only cost me a paltry $90. I had decided that my Sears player had a lot of hours on the original stylus so a replacement was in order. After buying it, I decided that an RCA player would be a better choice as the stylus's were much more plentiful at that time.
My CED movie collection consists of 115 discs. Based on the CEDmagic rarity ratings, I have 13 common titles, 83 uncommon, 18 rare and 1 very rare. The very rare one is "Academy Award Winners: Animated Short Films".
I currently own 2 Hitachi players (Sears 934.54800250), 2 SJT-200's and 1 SJT-090. The currently inactive SJT-200 has a broken part inside it. I will be posting what is wrong with it and if anyone has any ideas about repairing it soon.
Besides, the CED format, I have 92 laserdiscs with 3 LD players, ~100 VHS tapes and an RCA VCR, and over 200 DVD's with about 180 in a DVD changer. I also have over 100 CD's divided between 2 CD changers controlled by my PC for playback.
In my movie collection, I have the VHS tape, CED, Laserdisc and the DVD of "Poltergeist". I guess I need to get the Blu-ray disc next.(LOL)
The last 2 CED movies I watched were "ELO at Winbley" and "Earth, Wind and Fire in Concert". The ELO disc did not have a single skip and the Earth disc had only 1.
Well, I have been long winded enough for now. More later. |

Back some 10 to 15 years ago, I found an electronics supplier that still had the RCA stylus's for sale. Over time, I bought 8 of the 154216 stylus's and put 7 of them in storage. I installed one of the stylus's in my active SJT-200. The 154216 stylus fits the SJT-200 player that I have active now. So, I should be good for a long time in the stylus department.
I checked e-bay for CED movies and was surprised at the number that are up for sale. It seemed that it wasn't too long ago that there were very few CED's for sale on the site.
Blindfury:
I will check on the condition of the one Hitachi player I bought off e-bay.. It may be suffering from bad belts as my first Hitachi seems to be. If so, I will repair it before I would pass it on to you unless you want to fix it? |

Good you made it. Let us know what's up with the broken SJT 200.
Sounds like you have plenty of players, and are short on movies. Time to start revigorating your collections.
I'm happy to see another CED and LD collector on the site. |

ED! You made it! Welcome to CEDmagic! I told everyone about you trying to get in, i'm glad you did. Looks like our stories are the same, I bought my first player in late Summer, or early Fall 1982, an SGT250, except I got out of it in 1986, sold my player and discs, I have 7 players now:
SFT100 (needs a little work)
SJT090 (not currently working)
Zenith
Hitachi VIP1000
SGT250
SJT300
SJT400
I love all of them, but the SGT250 will always have a special place in my heart. Glad you are here! _________________ 1000 titles

I don't think I'll get many more players, I do want an SGT200 though, it was the first player I got last year when I got back into then. I sold it, I wish I'd kept it. _________________ 1000 titles

Yes, I think that was me who made that suggestion. Still curious about what's wrong with your broken SJT 200?
Beetle, I did not know you wanted an SGT 200, I have several of those sitting here leftover from Dad's shop. |

The following photo shows what I did with the broken SJT-200.
http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n581/dumbchemist/P1010034.jpg
I think you can see what I had to glue together. I used aquarium cement which is for gluing panes of glass together to create an all-glass aquarium. I believe that the cement is strong enough for this application. I will be adding 2 beads of the cement on either side of the joint to strengthen it more this AM..
I also got around to repairing my Hitachi player that I bought in 1983. The loading belt had stretched so far that it could not turn the pulley. I replaced it and the arm drive belt. Now it works like new. Let;s see now, 2 belts at $2.00 each for an appliance that is 30 years old is not bad.
I opened uo the other Hitachi (that I bought off e-bay). It's arm drive pulley is broken and the loading belt looks stretched too. I have ordered the 2 belts off cedmagic and will install them once I get them.
Does anyone know how to get at the timing belt on the Hitachi's? The photo of its location on cedmagic leaves a few things desired. It looks like the belt is accessible from the bottom of the player. Also, how essential is it's replacement? I do have a new timing belt so that is not an issue. |

| I have repaired quite a few of the Hitachi brand of players and have never had to replace the timing belt. They are very hard and they just don't stretch out. |

This is such a coinkidink...
I subscribe to your YouTube channel as we share quite a few interests in the items we collect (primarily LD.) When you mentioned that you were getting back into CED the other day I though "wow... I just finally broke down and bought a load of CEDs myself." |

I see the part that broke on your 200 I think it is called the spring caddy lockout? Either way if your fix does not work i have about 3-4 part players that i could salvage the part off of one of them for you for free!
As for the hitachi timing belt like cbertra said, I have messed with quite a bit of these kind and have never had to replace the hard plastic timing belt!
Also haha welcome to the site cess and sax!! _________________ I dont own

Thanks for the offer for the part for my ailing 200. The repair job I did did not last. The cement is not strong enough or is too flexible and the part broke after a few disc insertions. I would appreciate if you could get the part off one of your players; but, I have no idea how to remove the old part. Is there a tutorial for doing this or a service manual PDF file? If you do decide to take the part from one of your defunct players, let me know after you have done it and I will send you the postage and my address.
On another note, I hooked up my Hitachi player that I bought in 1983 to my video/stereo and it works as it has done in the past. The movie, The World of Henry Orient, now plays better than ever. Before the belt replacements, the picture was slightly blurry and seemed to be out of focus.
Here is a suggestion for storing your players. I use the Ziploc Big Bags, XLarge. Their size is 2 ft X 1.7 ft. and they have a double ziploc to keep the dust out. The bag is about 4 inches too big which gives you room for storing the power cord beside the player. You can get the bags from Amazon.com. _________________ Sears 934-54780150 & 934.54810350,
