I have been a bit under the weather the last couple of days, unable to do much, seems I pulled a muscle in my back/side yesterday morning. It is much better, but still a long way. I haven't even been able to get up to change the discs. Since I am feeling better, I just put Frankenstein in. I have still watched horror movies on DVD:
Final Destination
Final Destination II
Final Destination III
Children of the Corn
Pet Semetary
Halloween (remake)
Hallween II (remake) it was so stupid, i couldn't finish it.
Halloween II
Halloween H20
Hallween Resurrection
Tonight:
Escape from New York
Children of the Damned

Wow, I can barely watch one per night!

Tonight, 10-24, finishes the Texas Chainsaw legacy films with the 4th in the series, Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. A 1994 release that was directed by Kim Henkel, co-writer of the original along with Tobe Hooper. Henkel was more into black humor while Hooper was responsible for the terror, and together they did well.

Henkel attempted to recreate the success of Return of the Living Dead by moving more towards black humor in the series, but it did not work too well. However, bad moments aside, within this 4th film, considered to be the weakest of the series, are several frightening scenes and a chase scene with Leatherface just as scary as the famous one from the original TCM.

If the silly humor was left out and the trans-sexual dressing up of Leatherface cut, plus his high pitched vocalizing, this would be a decent entry.

I'll be watching the uncut Japanese LD version, as it was never available in a US release on LD or uncut.

I'm going to try a theme series for these last seven days of October, based upon the number seven. Here's the plan:

10-25 Journey to the Seventh Planet LD

10-26 Seven Days in May CED

10-27 The Seventh Sign VHS

10-28 The Seventh Victim LD Val Lewton Collection

10-29 Seventh Voyage of Sinbad CED

10-30 Friday the 13th, part VII (7) DVD

And one of the best for Halloween...

10-31 SE7EN (aka Seven) LD Criterion Extended Version Special Edition

That's one per night, which is usually all we can handle, but if we can swing a double feature night or two, I may add one or two of these:
The Seventh Veil - a 1940s Film Noir
The Twenty-Seventh Day - Hard to find Sci-Fi apolcalyptic film
The Seventh Seal - Eclectic Bergman film has a fellow playing chess with Death
The Seven Faces of Dr Lao - Fine Tony Randall Fantasy

I watched Frankenstein last night. I plan to watch some CEDs this week, but for the last week before Halloween, I always go with the old movies, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, and Dracula, all from the 30s & 40s. Then I move up to Peter Cushing/Christopher Lee movies, any of the old Hammer movies. I'm in high hopes of finding a CED Dracula so I can watch more CED! I will also watch:
Halloween (DVD)
Halloween II (CED)
Halloween H20 (BluRay)
Halloween Resurrection DVD
Halloween IV DVD
Halloween V DVD
The Fog CED
Friday the 13th CED

Since youliek the old classics, have you had any chance to watch the Val Lewton horror series from the 1940s? The series is this group of nine films he produced for RKO.

Tha Cat People
Curse of the Cat People
The Leopard Man
The Ghost Ship
Bedlam
The Body Snatchers
Isle of the Dead
I Walked with a Zombie
The Seventh Victim

None are on CED but all are on LD, and also just recently all were released on double-feature DVDs with the Martin Scorcese documentary about Val Lewton, or in a box set as well.

They're not on CED but all are on LD, and also all are

I have the Cat People recorded to watch. I had the Remake of the Cat People on CED, but it was so bad, I trashed it. Pity too because the caddy was near mint. Sometimes I wonder what it the world people do with their CEDs.

If I have bad discs in a great caddy, I save it until I find a better disc in a lousy caddy. That happened to me with Halloween II, fine disc in a broken caddy. Had to locate a bad disc to get the caddy.

Yeah, I have done that with a few. Actually I have a few empty caddys. That might be another way to swap around. Like I have 3 near perfect caddys of Psycho. Maybe there should be a thread about that.

Well, here it is 10-26 and I have not been able to watch more than a single movie per night as yet.

The fault lies in the fact that there's a new (to me) over-air channel called ME TV (ME = Memorable Entertainment) that has been showing The Rifleman, Mary Tyler Moore, and Bob Newhart Show reruns that I have not seen in 30 years.

Plus the fact that another channel, Antenna TV, is showing 2 episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents each night as well. And they have a Hitchcock Halloween Marathon on the 31st too.

Yeah, Hitchcock and Halloween were made for each other!

No, we have plain old over-the-air free TV. That's all I've ever had except for one year a while ago when I got cable to see what I was missing, and I wasn't missing anything really. I always found over-air just fine for two reasons:

1. Working my way though college as TV antenna installer, then getting my degree in Radio-TV broadcasting, so I know the system.

2. Always preferred watching movies and shows on a home video format I could control, like tape or disc.

Well, since over-air went digital, in the LA and surrounding area we now already have over 100 channels. Now several are Spanish and Asian, but still there's over 50 in English of a great variety. Plus the picture is as good as any cable TV with just a little antenna on a 25 ft pole, and we are 80 miles out of town in the country too. Many channels are in HD as well.

For example, there are 12 different types of PBS channels showing all the kinds of stuff you see on Discovery, Learning Channel, History Channel. HGTV, DIY, etc. There's 3 classic TV show channels, 2 movie only channels. There's the regular 5 networks and special separate channels for news, weather, sports. There's a bunch of independent channels.

When I go to my in-laws place overnight, and they have cable, I am bored with what's on. I see better stuff than they can and they pay almost $100 per month. Guess who enjoys TV more...

If cable and satellite did not have the grip on the public they have thanks to people, especially the young kids, believing they cannot live without it, digital over-air TV could clobber them. All it needs is somebody with foresight and a bankroll, like a new Ted Turner, to get it really going.

But you can still have cable or satellite TV AND the over-air TV as well, just have to set up yourself an antenna properly and if you have a modern set, the digital tuner should already be in the set.

Tonight I finally will be catching a double feature.

SEVEN (aka SE7EN) is on tap for tonight, the seventh in my series of a week of horror/sci fi films with 'seven' in the title somehow.

But since SEVEN is a quasi-horror film, more like a crime thriller or one of those Italian Giallo films about wacko killers, I will have on hand a VHS tape I just got of that 80s classic TERRORVISION. Tried to find the Japan LD of it for ages, and finally broke down and got the tape instead.

That's with episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents in between them on the Hitchcock Marathon that's running today.

I love the holidays! I love Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas! I also love Christmas movies/shows. I have How the Grinch Stole Christmas & A Christmas Carol on CED, and I plan to watch them several times:). Of course there are some other CEDs that are based at Christmas time, like Gremlins.

Ooh... good one. I was compiling a mental list of worthwhile Christmas themed films earlier and I had forgotten about that one!

After completing 32 movies watched over the 31 days of October, I got ready for next year by picking up these movies in special sales or trades.

CED
I Spit On Your Grave
The House on Sorority Row
Venom
Squirm
The Boogey Man
The Incubus (sealed)

Laserdisc
Unknown Origin (The Alien Within)
Digital Man
Impulse
Tornado!
Sawbones
The Lost World, silent version

Then I went to Walmart to get a few things for the house and saw two DVDs in their $5 bin, one with 8 horror films and the other with 4, and not the usual old public domain titles like Devil Bat, etc. The DVDs had such nice, newer films as:

Prom Night (original)
Case of the Whitechapel Vampire
Shadowzone
The Nurse
Hells Highway (a fun low-budget flick)

and a bunch more.

I am a huge Jamie Lee Curtis fan, and there are 2 movies she was in that I have never seen, Prom Night, and Terror Train

Was this the Prom Night she was in?

Yes, it is. I have that and Terror Train on laserdisc as well.

Since you got some LDs recently, you ought to buy one of my $20 laserdisc players. I'd ship it with the CED player to save on shipping.

http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/ele/2682222903.html

There's even more I have not you put up. And the prices are even better than the CED players.
