|
|
| Greetings all. I recently was gifted a SGT-250 with a rather large collection of movies! The only problem is.... When I turn on the player it whirs as if it wants to do something but the LED display just shows a constant "L". The door will not open and the player will perform no other functions... Just the warm glow of the letter "L" and the sound of a humming motor. Any information that could be provided would be most appreciated. |

Hi, and welcome to the forum. This is the place for you to get all info and help to keep that player up and running!
There's a small belt that needs replacing on the function motor. It's located at the front right corner as you look at the player. Reference this photo from the Cedmagic repair solution pages:
http://www.cedmagic.com/tech-info/belt-replacement-guide/sgt250-chassis.html
Probably the belt has gone to goo with age. That means a cleanup job with nail polish remover and lots of paper towels, because the goo is really sticky.
Lifting the lid requires removal of 3 phillips screws on the back and several hex head screws on the bottom. Then you'll see what I mean. You can even turn the player on and get a better idea of where the trouble is.
In the photo you'll see a black gear that sits above the motor and gear that holds the belt. That gear has to be lifted off carefully from it's stem. There is no screw holding it on. A drop of lube oil or wd-40 on the stem will help to free it. Maybe a little pry with needle-nose pliers too, not screwdriver, because needle-nose allows you to put the pliers tips under each side of the stem so no breaking of the gear.
Once off, it's easy to get to everything else and cleanup. Usually you can buy the belt here on cedmagic, but I noticed that sales have been temporarily stopped. Anyone know why?
Anyway, I have some polypropylene bands that will work. You send me you address and I'll send it to you free. My email is rixrex @ netzero.net
Then you can get that problem fixed and move on to see if that does it. |

Did anyone find out why Tom isn't selling his things? I've ordered things from him before and he ships quickly. So does CEDatum for that matter. As long as someone is selling, thati's all that matters. By the way,
WELCOME TO CEDMAGIC JAY_ARA!!! The SGT250 is a very special player, in fact it has been refered to as a "TANK" because it is very durable. The belt is just like 2 bucks. Good luck _________________ 1000 titles

Jay, I was looking in my CED tool box this evening, and I have several of the function belts for the SGT250, send me your mailing address to Beetlescott@msn.com, and I'll send you one out. That will hold you over until Tom gets the store back opened. Be sure and put CED in the Subject line. Good luck! _________________ 1000 titles
