Having gone through my Dad's big collection of CED players, and trying to get them to work and look nice, I have a couple of simple tips to share...
1. To cover small edge & corner scuffs or scratches, I found that a bottle of silver or chrome nail polish works great (black nail polish for black area on cases). It goes on smoothly, dries quick and is very close to the correct shade. Plus has its own small brush.
2. While waiting for a proper function motor drive belt, I found that polypropolene hair bands work great. The come usually 100 to a pack and various sizes, look like rubber bands but are much more durable. I use the 1" diameter band. They are stretchy, and I usually put two on the pulley for added friction, and they will fit well. In fact, I have left one main player this way for months to see how long they last, and it's still going strong.
Anybody else have any other helpful tips? |

| Finger nail polish remover works really good to remove those belts that have turned to black goo and Q-Tips to get into small areas. |

That's good to know. Up to now I've been using gasoline to do it, since it worked better than anything else I found, but I sure had to be careful.
Here's another tip, but not about the players, about the discs:
I always keep my LDs in those special LD plastic covers to keep the jackets nice, but they wouldn't work for the 13" by 14" CEDs.
However, I just found some clear jackets that are 13.5" by 19" that work great, you just fold the extra 5" of flap over. You can find them on ebay for about a quarter each if you look for "storage bags 13". Also there are some ziplock bags 13 by 15 inside measure about the same cost, that I suppose would work if you like the ziplock feature. |

Agreed I used it wiith my first player, Also, the orange stuff called "goo gone" works great too, and smells better:)

Good to know, thanks for the tip. When I first got back into the world of CED players and discs, I bought what was used as a magazine rack, it was shaped like half of a pyrmiad. it sat against the hwall, was about 2 feet deep on the bottom and came all the way up to a point, The CEDs looked fantastic, because you got to see the face, not just filed like a library book. I think I have a picture, i'll see if I can post it in here

Haven't been here in a while, what have I missed?
I would just be careful about the temporary belt that you use. If it is too tight it may cause extra drag on the motor and over time could be bad for your motor. I always keep extra belts for each of my players as well as some motors should they go bad.

Of course, that's why it's a temporary solution. But they really are not noticably tighter that the regular belt so that's why I have them on one unit watching it to see how it works over time. |
