hey yall, i have been noticing that after about 5 minutes into a movie, my player starts to make noise, i non-invasively peeked into the player while it was on through the door and saw the disc drive shaking a little bit, over all my movies play well, but all the ones i have watched have skipped a bit. here is a video ( sorry its a shitty one ) of the sound it makes, i am very technically inept and i can read schematics and what not, so im not worried about having to make repairs to the player, i have plenty of tools ( although i heard that these players are much much more simple than a vcr ) but before i take it apart has this happened to anyone else before its a sears 934.54810350, thanks!
i thought this was a belt drive, but it turns out its a direct drive i dont want to watch anymore discs on it for fear the moving of the turntable will ruin my movies, also can the stylus cartridges be cleaned with anything, or are they just replaced?

I don't know enough about them to help you diagnose the problem.
But I'm sure that some others will help you with this.
I can point you in the best direction for stylus evaluation and cleaning/rebuilding however.
Contact John at CEDatum.
CEDatum.net is the website.
I just sent him four stylii today, and he has done a GREAT job for myself and many others in the past. He will evaluate your stylus and then let you know what needs to be done. The inspection is also free. They do cleaning and if need be, can rebuild your stylus. _________________ The Reason A Dog Has So Many Friends, He Wags His Tail Instead Of His Tongue. |

ok well, i decided that since i didnt get to watch the flip side of police acedemy i figured i would play it so i could better identify the noises, but it played the whole b side with out the rubbing noise... i did read this in the FAQ of the link you sent me...
"You have just received that " nice working" player that you purchased via the Internet. The player was shipped to you by common carrier. You try out the player and find out the picture is poor and something inside the player is making a bad rotating noise. There is a good chance that your nice player was not packed with enough padding under the player and the box was put down heavily or dropped. Now the turntable spindle has broken away from the turntable platter and the turntable is too low and rubbing on the player chassis as it rotates"
maybe this is the fix for me? _________________ Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350),sft100,sgt250,sjt090,100,101,200,300,400,vp550, VP4000!

Often that type of sound comes from the disc toucjhing against a side of the caddy spline. The spline stays in the player with the disc and is only a fraction of an inch away from the disc on all sides. The spline is held in place by internal supports and often this sound will be intermittent.
I've heard this sound on all types of RCA players as well. I usually can get it to stop by touching the spline and moving it slightly back.forth or right/left. |
