CED VideoDisc and Player Discussion

I own two CED players, both monaural. They are the RCA SFT100W & the RCA SKT090. They both work very well, but I have noticed that the RCA SFT100W plays discs a lot quiter than the RCA SKT090. When I play a CED on my RCA SKT090, there is a louder "whirring" noise than the RCA SFT100W. Does any one know why? I know that they are both physically & mechanically different. I am just curious.

That doesn't seem right to me. Operating properly, I'd think the SJT and SKT players should not be any louder than the others. At least that's what I've notice from testing out several dozens of players just recently.

The only thing I can think of is if the turntable disc is touching somewhere. I do know that sometimes the turntable on those models can slip down a bit and touch the shelf right under it, but usually that's a scuffing type of sound.

One thing that's significantly different with those 2 players is that there's a circuit panel in the SFT 100W that is just above the turntable which might block some turntable sound, such a panel doesn't exist on the SKT 090.

I have noticed that when my SJT400 fires up, it has a whirl noise, but when it gets up to top speed, it stops. My SGT250 or VP2000 Zenith doesn't do it at all. I just thought is was a quirk it had.
